Obama to seek new approach in Afghanistan

Iran, on Afghanistan's western border, has been kept at arm's length by the Bush administration, but should be considered in formulating a new Afghanistan strategy, a senior US military official was cited as saying.

"As we look to the future, it would be helpful to have an interlocutor" to explore shared objectives, the official told the newspaper. The Iranians "don't want Sunni extremists in charge of Afghanistan any more than we do," the official said.

Very interesting, Shia Iran may be a very interesting Ally to fight the Sunni Taliban, and to end the first war Bush started. At the same time it may warm relations with the Islamic republic and start negotiations about their nuclear program.
Divide and conquer strategy like the US used to pursue in the Middle East, works much better then just to ally with Israel and invade any country they would like.
Then with Afghanistan all cleaed up from Taliban, maybe he can use Afghanistan in the future to attack Iran, cause of their possible new built nukes?

Hence, the Old Persian Empire has become complete, extending from the countries behind the river, Iran and Iraq… to the Sham (Syria and Lebanon)," Muhajir said.
