What effects do fluoride have on plants?

What would plants be like without fluoride? We use fluoride to water them and our animals(do animals have pineal glands?). Does it dumb them down, as well? I'd just like to hear some opinions, if you don't mind.

In my AP Bio class we did a project using coleus plants, and almost everyone's died. They all used tap water. Mine lived, and I didn't use tapwater. My mom used to be a great gardener, everyone told her she had a green thumb and we had well water. Since we moved and now have city water she can't get a single house plant to stay alive.
