First things first, I'm not an 'expert' so my opinion is based on my experience and the situations that have presented themselves to me over the last few years.

I've been 'active' for my entire life,sports,water-sports,traveling,'adventure-breaks' ... and generally maintained a body weight of 80-85kg.

With this activity level I found I could eat anything, anywhere, anytime and didn't increase fat-levels...
BUT I have never eaten many 'junk-foods' because cooking 'fresh food' tastes better and to me is just as 'convenient'.

After an accident I found myself inactive and recuperating for 2 year out of the last 3 years.
Weight went from 85kg to 110kg fairly quickly due to the fact I was consuming the same 'convenience' foods that the rest of the family has eaten consistently..They are all obese, some 'morbidly'.

I ended up depressed,relationship failed,life sucked.

After mobility improved in the last year I started slowly back on the road to 'fitness'.
But due to the brain-fogging numbness that I found myself experiencing it just wasn't working as well as it should.
I had got myself 'dosed' with all the processed,preservative-laden plastic-wrapped turds they call 'food' these days.

Doctors will NOT tell you why you feel crap, will NOT help you understand what is happening.

It took more of a physical effort to get off this than it ever did in physio,no joke.

But here's the ridiculous thing,it took only about a month before I found myself functioning normally again once I had ejected all the pre-packed crap.

Almost a year in the gym with no change...

Now... I've dropped 3/4 of the weight I put on ONLY AFTER changing back to NON-PROCESSED food...in 4 months.

Now by X-mas I can look forward to being back at the weight and activity level I have been lucky enough to have experienced for the majority of my life.

I feel good,my depression has left,I can socialise again.

................

People have to take notice of what they are eating again.
Peeling back a polythene lid and microwaving a plastic tray of chemicals is NOT CONVENIENT.

It's disgusting,it's a recipe for metabolic failure.

You are being deliberately poisoned in your own homes in the hope that it will keep you in front of the TV adverts longer, selling you crap that'll keep you even more immobile..AND even more crap that they promise will make you thinner.
UTTER RUBBISH.

If you want to talk 'nutrition' great..

I have spent quite some time reading up on metabolism and regulating insulin levels to prevent sugar 'swing' and cravings.

I added up the amount of calories and nutritional data I should be taking in for a normal day and I was consistently BELOW recommended intake on the 'processed' diet.Yet Was still overweight.

If any of this sounds familiar to you or you're stuck in the same rut,PLEASE ask me here..

If you're shy about it I invite anyone to u2u me.

Or if you want to 'shape up'/'lose weight'..

Don't worry, I'm not selling anything

I'm sure people know me by now in here.

I'd just love to help anyone get out of the processed lifestyle..and wish someone had been there to help me when I needed it.

The only thing I'd recommend buying is a set of light dumb-bells..about 3-4lbs each is all (£5 $10) from your local supermarket/toystore/whatever...
It's all to do with metabolism and your own 'lean muscle mass'..just ask me.

LOSE THE PROCESSED CRAP!!
IN ONLY TWO WEEKS YOU WILL LOSE THE CRAVING FOR IT TOO.!!!.

Easy guide.. If it doesn't look like what it used to be..DON'T EAT IT.!

(I'll post some typical meals and snacks here after the weekend's work.)

................
Could mod please move to BTS 'health and wellness' forum.
I did a woopsy lol.

Good thread. I have been preaching these things for years. My kids are the only ones that listened and they know the truth...they are lean and healthy. I have found that when I took stupid short cuts in my diet with fast food and processed food I felt tired and would gain weight.

I am not fat biased I am sure genetics plays into some of it but several hundred pounds of weight I think not.

One of my pet peeves is seeing over weight people sitting in little grocery cars shopping for junk foods at my local grocery.

The U.S has exported the dicease of obesity and laziness around the world via Big Macs and Kentucky Fried.

Genetics can play a part in the amount of fat cells you have.
If the mother is overweight while pregnant you get a bad start.
If both parents are overweight I think it rises to a 60% chance you will be that way inclined too.(like my parents)
BUT,there is no reason you have to keep those fat cells 'inflated'
They will be there ...but in a smaller form if you do not over indulge

It has gotten so bad I have to leave the room when my family eats now.
Now I know this isn't a psychological reaction as it's been no different for as long as I remember...and I don't try to 'preach' anymore..gave that up years ago.

So I can only assume I'm picking up on a harmful chemical smell or something.
It really does make my stomach turn now and shocks me that I didn't notice it while I was eating the same stuff.

Mac-D's Chips,cakes,pies,crisps,ice-cream. Blugghhh.

Even the 'healthy' foods I opted for.. chicken,fish,turkey,ham..were all dosed in chemicals to make them last longer on the shelves.

Now think about it...Those chemicals have to go somewhere when you eat them.

I have scientifically PROVED the difference as I share exactly the same genetics..but I am the only one who can climb a flight of stairs and back without turning purple and drowning out the TV with puffing and panting.

I tried it before a camping trip..it was horrible, lacklustre,energyless,aching.. it totally spoilt the trip.
I also tried the difference in the gym.. It was a waste of time and money.

ANYONE who is 'fit' eating processed food try this...
Note your energy levels and performance at the gym..
Then 'detox' on fresh food for two weeks..See the difference when you go again.

No migraines.aches,bloating...
No cravings for sugar or chocolate even.. and I'd normally sacrifice virgins to Satan for a bar of 'fruit and nut'

I shared the same house with everyone catching flu a couple of weeks ago.. Except guess who.

HELL!!!! What are they doing to us??

Anyway.. Off for a beer..mmmm beeeeer.!
I'm still human yeah

(DON'T drink alcohol with meals.. it prevents the body making use of protein in the food)

Throughout my adolescence I was always very athletic. I played hockey all winter and baseball all summer. Every day after school I was out doing something. When I finished high school and was too old to participate in the organized leagues that I had for so long, I was no longer afforded the opportunity to continue to participate so frequently. My activity level dropped and my weight increased.

I was never one to work out for the sake of working out. I played sports as a leisurely activity, not as a means of staying in shape.

I found it a difficult transition to begin to exercise for health and not leisure.

For about 5 years my activity level was diminished and I gained at least 35lbs. It really does weigh on you daily when you are above the body weight that you have come to know for so long.

For the last year or so I've been back and forth with my fitness, but about six months ago I really turned it around and have been steady since. I've dropped about 20lbs of body fat and put on quite a bit of muscle. My cardiovascular levels are back to what they were when I was younger and I'm slowly working on bringing down my body fat levels.

My current weight is no longer an issue as I sit typically around 190.. but I'd like to shed a little more body fat and build more muscle.

My eating habits are mediocre at best. My work schedule is hardly normal and it will result in me eating at terrible times and with little time to prepare a meal, I typically end up eating on the road. I can only handle Subway so many times when I need to put back a burger and fries. With my level of exercise in the past several months, had I been eating perfectly healthy, I bet I would have dropped at least another 15-20lbs. But the way I see it, I'm happy with where I'm at and I'm not going to force myself into something I don't want.

I like the food I eat, even if it isn't the healthiest. And my metabolism is noticeably better as I'm able to shed some of this garbage that I put into my belly.

If, for some reason, you happen to have cravings while eating a low car/low processed food diet, take a serving of L-Glutamine. It comes in a powder form and can be found at GNC. It immediately destroys sugar/carb cravings.

But don't you think that's EXACTLY what the cause of the problem is.?
Why on earth would you want to..

1 Eat badly, spending hard earned money on poor nutritionally valued food, but hey that's ok because you can always..

2 Spend MORE money taking supplements..

to fix a condition that you would not have found yourself in by Just buying food that isn't laced with sugar and preservatives in the first place.

This isn't just about trying to achieve superman/woman like physiques.

It's about eating enough QUALITY fresh food in hunger appeasing amounts at consistently regular times of the day, that's all..That is the key to health and maintaining weight and vitality, clearing the mental fog, malaise and constant cravings.

How on earth can people wonder why they have no energy when they use the peel-back,microwave and eat method?

You can remove time at the gym by burning calories...

1 Shopping MORE OFTEN,getting non-preservative laden food.(It won't keep as long).Walk there and back with a smaller bag instead of loading the 4x4 with boxes of pretty looking poison.

2,Buy fresh fruit...Not juices.Your body will love you for it.It was designed to WORK getting the sugar from fruit, not be spoon fed it from a packet.

3,Chopping and preparing Fresh WHOLE veggies (instead of simply unwrapping plastic coated, preserved and un-appetizing precut lumps)..this will burn calories.

I'm definitely not 'anti-supplements' (especially chromium)

But if you find yourself lacking in vitamins/minerals,then that is a sign your diet is well..err...lacking.
Find food that you like that will get those missing bits back into your system.

In chromium's case, which a LOT of people on a 'modern' diet will be lacking, you can get it from..

raw oysters, corn flakes, butter, seedless raisins, roasted peanuts, white mushrooms, brewer's yeast, cocoa, meat, and wine.

I prefer getting it from mushrooms with breakfast and from a piece of dark chocolate bar with 80% cocoa content.

That's great to hear.

There's nothing like the buzz you get from a bit of self-improvement.

Lifestyle and jobs these days are definitely more sedentary and make it all the harder to find time..but here's my tip.

The set of dumb-bells I mentioned earlier...

Keep them by the sofa when you're chilling out in front of the TV.
Just do as many arm curls or arm raises as you can be bothered doing at the time...that's it.Do it while the ads are on.
To the girls it WON'T build muscle so you're not going to develop 'Arni arms'

Months of running did very little for fat loss, cardio fitness yeah..much better and 'fitter' .but it does not encourage fat loss..even worse..it burns off muscle tissue which LOWERS your metabolism.
When was the last time you saw a healthy looking long distance runner?

Those small exercises in front of the TV will cause micro-tears in the muscles and will need repairing..THAT increases the amount of calories your body uses.
Keeping your LEAN MUSCLE MASS steady will burn fat..

That means no over-eating but also NO SEVERE DIETING too.. yayyyy.

Dropping more than 300 calories off your daily intake(average weight guy) will SLOW your metabolism again.

So NO 'diet'

The body doesn't 'store' protein.
You need it at regular intervals throughout the day. 30g x 5 for myself.
( 1 g of protein for every 1lb of 'lean body mass')

Make a guesstimate.If you're 'cut' you don't need to read this..if not..

If you're slim..knock off about 20% from your actual bodyweight

If you're 'average' knock off 27%

Overweight 35% +

Be honest to yourself.
Stick to that basis and eat around that lean body mass..keep it,don't lose it,and it will help you burn off the fat reserves.

No dieting!! Yeah I said it again

Let's face it..How many of them worked anyway? Why didn't they? Too restrictive?Bland tasting?Left you with no energy?

This works..no gimmicks.I can already see two of my 'six-pack' returning.

It's not a 'keg' anymore.

TURKEY AND CHEESE OMELETTE.

COST. £1.00 to make.

320 calories..(ish)
42 grams protein.
13 grams fat.

Time to prepare...8 minutes.

turkey breast w/o skin......161 calories......4 grams fat......30 grams protein
1 egg white.............16 calories......0 grams fat........3 grams protein
1 full egg................ 75 calories......5grams fat.........6grams protein
cheese 1/2 slice(15g)50 calories.....4grams fat..........3grams protein

Chop/slice turkey to 1cm pieces and drop in hot pan.
NON-stick uses far less oil to cook and pan is easier to clean

Cook till you see the pink meat turning white half way through then turn over and do from other side.(2 mins per side if pieces are small enough)

Break 1 full egg into cup,add the white of another egg and whisk till roughly mixed.

Chuck over turkey and cook till solid almost all the way to top,Flip over to finish off.

Break small bits of cheese over top for last minute.
(If you don't like cheese, add second egg YOLK but it will be a little less tasty.)

NO EXCUSE!! for not sparing 8 minutes to make breakfast.
It's your most important meal to kickstart your metabolism and this will wake up your brain for the day.

You are 'inviting' diabetes if you don't top up your blood sugar levels after sleep.
(says he who use to rush to work without breakfast and grab a mars bar on the way.

Thank you. I've been preaching this for years now. How many sprinters do you know that aren't cut and healthy looking? It just goes to show that calorie expendature is not important during the workout. When you're weight training, you're not building muslce, you're damaging it. It's the 48 hours afterwards when the building occurs. Same goes for fat burning.

That means no over-eating but also NO SEVERE DIETING too.. yayyyy.

Wait, was that directed at my diet thread? How dare you
!

Sorry, that was uncalled for. I'll go ahead and say that 90% of diets don't work because they are based on calorie restriction alone. Unfortunately, they don't really lose much fat, but muscle instead.

It's always nice reading your posts Agent T!

Cheer,s

(I didn't know you had a 'diet thread' so there isn't anything that could have been directed at anyone in particular.
)
I'll have to dig it up for more tips ,cheers.

If anyone,it's directed at all those so-called 'miracle diet' book writers out there.

Simple facts I 'kinda knew' were all pieces of a jigsaw, but trying to do it without the box lid picture, which unless you are a nutritionist/personal trainer or REALLY into this stuff, you wouldn't usually come across this info.

I knew I had to eat a certain quantity of protein a day...but didn't know the body doesn't really store it,therefore it needs a constant supply at REGULAR intervals. 2-3 hours ideally.

I don't know ANYONE who deliberately makes a point of having a protein rich breakfast,it's usually all carbohydrates, refined sugary ones too.
The idea supposedly being a quick energy boost to get you going.

I'd have a 'wheaty brekkie' and be starving by lunchtime, so immediately you'd have low blood sugar when you wake, high when you eat brekkie rich in sugar, then low again before lunch.
IE VERY BAD!
Diabetes here we come.

Rollercoaster of bloating and dizzy hungry.

Now There's a way to do it without going hungry.
All you have to do it feed your muscle.
Keep it stocked up on energy, jiggle yourself about once in a while to remind your heart it has a job to do...once in a while.

Buy a resistance band for about a fiver and use it a few times a day watching TV. Or at your desk at work.(or use it to tie up the kids while you go to the gym
)
If the boss complains, tell him he'll get the time and money back with less days sickness.

I'll keep adding in the occasional recipe for 'non-cooks' so there's no excuse for not finding a way to get that protein.

AND IT'S A HELL OF A LOT CHEAPER THAN BUYING MACTUCKYBURGERS.
They're killing people through apathy,honest.:shk:

I was a personal trainer for a few years and the most aggravating aspect of the job was the fact that people eat horribly and refuse to change. They can bounce from one fad diet to another and always wonder..."Why do I put the weight back on?"

People don't realize that you need to make a full blown lifestyle change. You HAVE to get away from processed foods and you HAVE to watch your portion sizes. If you can't do that.... YOU WILL ALWAYS BE OVERWEIGHT.

Nobody wants to though. I understand the addiction to the stuff. I understand how addicting it is to stop exercising. Believe me, I do. But you still need to make that change. You can't dabble in fitness and a good diet. You have to commit or you are just wasting your time because you will always fall back on old habits.

Guys, you know i'm trouble when i'm home alone!!

Actually, i like walking about 2 miles a day. I find that really helps. I have relatives in Nantucket that run
I pass on that.
Walking fast is my thing.

I do have eating disorders, and i kind of enjoy starving myself until the night. I have also had a bout with bulemia in my younger years. That, i did get serious help for and my heart suffered as a result.

But i'm better now.

This is the biggest problem with most personal trainers today, and the reason why clients don't get results. Trainers, for the most part, don't understand proper nutrition. And without proper nutrition, their clients will not get the physique they're looking for. Sad, but true!

BAD DG BAD!!!

I used to do the same going out for fancy dinner time in Dubai.
Starve all day and pig out on an "all you can eat and drink buffets".

My thinking was,if I missed out the calories during the day..it would cancel out all the ones I ate on the night-time.. WRONG!!!!

All that happens is,your metabolism goes into slow down for the day and is still slow when you pack the food in later..

Even if you 'opt healthy' on the night-time,You only process about 30-40g of quality food for your muscle mass and the rest is directed by the little green signalmen towards your hips bums and tums.

THEN.. you end up bloated and go sleep on it,slowing your metabolism down again without processing all those energy reserves.

If you're booked for a nice meal out it is actually BETTER to eat during the day,as it will at least speed up your metabolism, leaving it higher for when you eat out later.

In total agreement with DEVO-E and KARL.

It is not a 'diet' people need.. it's a lifestyle change.
Nutritional common sense is 90% of the job.

I'm surprised about personal trainers 'lack of nutritional knowledge' DEVO.
I thought it would be a BIG part of the course work.

Doctors are TOTALLY LACKING in this too,I read somewhere in the papers recently that most were below grad level..shocking!!

Speaking from direct experience doing this,It's so much easier said than done..
When you are indoctrinated into the 'processed' lifestyle,it's like a cloud in your head.Things that are so obvious now, just didn't enter into consideration then.

There's actually a thread here running "Everone is tired and no one knows why"
and I'm convinced this is the answer now.
www.abovetopsecret.com...&colorshift=yes

GOOD NEWS.. If you do it NOW.. It will all start to make sense in less than two weeks.

Just eat fresh.. food that looks like it is when it's alive or growing.
And supplement it with water.
Filter it and cool it.It turns it into a 'treat'...Not a chlorine packed necessity from the tap.
DON'T drink fruit juice.
The body was designed to process whole fruit and you will gain extra fibre and use more calories in the digestion process.

The great thing about it is..

Constant muscle tiredness...GONE
Headaches...GONE
Hunger between meals...GONE
Brain fog...GONE
Dizziness..GONE
Lethargy.. TOTALLY GONE

I always wondered why larger people in 'positions of power' seemed to look and act fitter/more alert than I did.
It's because they eat QUALITY..of that there is no doubt.
Fresh meat
fresh fish
fresh veggies
fresh fruit.

(Yeah! They eat far too much and probably pay 1000 times too much for overly tarted up food in 'business dinners'.)

But you can bet your ass they DON'T eat the regurgitated pigswill in KENBURGERD'S

It depends on the certification really. I can tell you that if a trainer knows anything about nutrition it's either A) All sports supplements, or B) Fat is bad and grains are good. :shk:

Thknk Doctor's Know Nothing About Nutrition?.....That's a prety damn good thread on what doctors really know about nutrition. One of my first threads.

Exactly, no fruit juice. It's best to eat them whole because the fiber slows absoption of sugar into the bloodstream. Plus, a glass of apple juice would take probably 5-6 apples, at least, to make. When's the last time you sat down and ate 6 apples?
