I am white, and cannot voice my opinion about Obama

Im a brit so I guess my post wont hold out much!
I dont give a *snip* if the guy is black, white, yellow green or a grey.......a lot of people voted him in so lets see what he can do!!!!!
critise anyone on what they do (in your opinion) but dont critise on speculation

being white is just as vulnerable to racism as any other creed that is why it must stop!!!!

The only ones bringing up Race are the Obama supports.

Race, was one of the MAIN pillars of the Obama platform. This is not an argueable point.

Intimidation is going to become a BIG political entity in America. Its been happening this election cycle, and its only increasing.

Places like San Fransicko are the center of this, and where we will see the biggest, and first signs of this new evil.

Intimidation in politics, according to you, just started with this election season? It may be easier for you to forget, probably because it fits your view, but when Bush was still popular there was just as much intimidation used if not more. The huge difference here is that Obama hasn't done anything yet but win the presidential election. Bush screwed our nation royally and there were, for a long time, the majority of Americans who would defend Bush without actually knowing anything about what he had done in office. I saw, in the course of this election, more Americans coming forward to say how dangerous Obama could be than I saw speaking out when Bush was destroying this country's standing in the world. And it wasnt the same people either, the ones who attacked Obama based off assumptions never said anything about Bush until Mccain and the Republicans started distancing themselves from him.

The intimidation factor was huge after 9/11 and especially after the Iraq war started. A huge number of Americans simply wanted justice for the atrocity of 9/11 and thus blindly supported Bush and his cronies. I spoke out against him then and faced far more intimidation than I have seen thus far for Obama.

I couldn't have said it better phinubian. People are worried because we've elected someone to the White House who doesn't have any experience running this country....? Other then a president who's been re-elected or one who served as VP who does have experience in running this country. I also don't understand why so many people have issues with Obama being charasmatic? Most great leaders are, that's how they get people to believe in their ideals. I guess I'm in the minority when I say that I want the leader of my country to be confident, educated and well spoken individual not a studdering idiot.

We as a country needed a change. The change isn't that our President Elect is a black man, the change is someone with a different view on how to do things. We can get so used to the way things are that any change what so ever causes panic. The old way wasn't working. We needed a change. I'm not looking at him as Black President Elect Obama, he's President Elect Obama and love him or hate him he's ours but one of the beauties of this country is that you do have every right to voice your opinion about him and if those around you make you feel as though you can't, then they are the ones with the problem.

I do not even think of Obama as black. I personally feel that peoiple that bash Obama are not neccesarily racist although for some that is a distinct possibility. I would say starting a thread like this to try to convince us that you are not racist most likely... well, thoust does protest too much.

I am more of the frame of mind that those that bash obama are those who believe in the inequality of men and have no desire to make the world better for most everyone. Call it selfish, call elitism, call it what ever you want, but generally it doesn't reflect well. as all the arguments against Obama are very hollow. Give the man a chance. He will help you even though you are not a big fan. Either that, or you are one of ones who would "destroy" and in that case you probably have a big bullseye for Obama on your forehead.

You dont think of obama as black but the proof is you had to make that kind of statement PERIOD

This thread has really gotten side tracked. The OP was asking why when he even questioned anything about Barack, would he be called derogitory names such as racist, whitey , etc. Personally after the last 8 years none of us should be taking any politician at their word and should thoroughly question anything that comes out of their mouths. I find the racial tones used by all sides a bit ridiculous. If your white and question Obama, your called racist, whitey, honky or a variety of other derogatory slurs. Even when your question is regarding legitamit standings this man has went on record stating. If your african american you get called a sell out and uncle Tom. Never has someone who claims to be a uniter done so much(even if inadvertantly) to divide us. Why is this type of hate speech (yes that is what it is) not adressed by him and his campaign? Supporters of this man should not allow this to continue, and every time an excuse is made for it thats what you're doing is allowing it. Yes there are some who have slung some racially motivated propaganda, but not everyone who questions something is thinking this way. Despite this when he is questioned, 90% of the time a supporter will start slinging these type of insults and others will jump on the bashing bandwagon with out erver pointing out the flaw in the insult. This forum has been littered thickly with these type of responses. I am white, but for the record so is Obama, at least 50% so. The other half of his race is a mixture of african and arab. (look at his father, who is a mix himself) As far as I am concerned, his race is unimportant, but if one wants to squabble, he's more white than anything else. Which is what I find so moronic about both sides of this racial issue, and yes calling some one a racist or whitey when one never makes a racist statement is a hatefull racist remark in itself and in its very nature is the type of propaganda Barack's supporters claim to want to stop.

I have to say......

Everyone here and everyone I know, knows I cant stand Obama. And I have made it pretty clear here But with that said, I havent had anyone (even here at ATS) say anything negative to me about it. Nobody has called me racist. Nobody has even told me im wrong for my beliefs.

People just let me talk and probably roll their eyes at me without me knowing Or maybe all the Obama supporters have me on Ignore.

I don't care if he's black, white, red, brown, yellow in skin or if he's American,Mexican, Russian, Muslim etc... Not one of those will ever stop me from disagreeing and voicing my opinion about them. If anyone says I'm a racist because I disagree or don't approve of someone's actions/ policies then they need to look at theirselves for even thinking racism. If Obama turns this country around and gets America back on track then I'll praise him but if he messes up I'm speaking out and want answers. Obama elect is just another President added to history and his color doesn't fix problems, his mind does. I voted McCain but we have a new President Jan 20th and his name is Barrack Obama. I'll be watching him closely and paying attention to what goes on in Washington and I suggest we all voice our opinions and leave race out of it and ignore the ones who call you a racistfor no reason.

We all have a right to voice our opinion and would like to do so without being called something we are not.
Having concerns about Obama is NOT being racist, no matter how much you might like to think so.

I'm not Republican, Democrat, or anything inbetween, but I have also noticed people acting as though Obama has a halo around his head and should not even be questioned.


As an aside, I believe everyone is forgetting something.
Obama is HALF white.
So does that mean I'm racists towards blacks AND whites if I have concerns about Obama?

Does anyone but me think it a bit odd that the subliminal message in all of our heads right now is "let's unify and forget our differences"?

Isn't it the differences we have that make us who we are?

Let's get off this "Obama is half white" thing! In america being so-called "half white" has always meant that you're black!

Thomas jefferson's children by sally hemmings weren't considered "half-white" they were considered black and they were slaves even though they were the children of the president of the united states!

Obama understands this and he has stated that he is black! He married a black woman and it is what it is! If that makes you uncomfortable then you should work on your inner bigotry!
