I found this bit of material online today and felt the need to share this. For anyone who is searching for truth and clarity during this rapidly changing political sphere I wanted to share a few very wise words of wisdom.

No matter how you voted this time around or why you voted for them, please keep these few statements in mind when considering change and how it affects people in the real world.

These statements really grabbed my attention, and as such I wished to post them for the benefit of anyone else who is trying to make sense of all of the political goings on and trying to decide what is what. They were written by a great American and are as true today as they were when originally penned.

Words of Wisdom

During this election year, let's be reminded of these words:

* You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

* You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

* You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

* You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

* You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

* You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence.

* You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

.... the author?

I agree that socialism is pure insanity and has brainwashed not Millions but Billions into dependency and weakness.

However: On a spectral scale from 1-10, 5 being the center, 10 being communism, 8 being socialism, the democratic party resides at around 6. "To be liberal" does not mean to be a socialist.

Greetings from the 5-zone.

uhmmm.....yes, you can do all those things with different results, not the results given by the author, who obviously was fairly narrow minded in the innovative ways of wealth creation and business diversification.

Actually, socialism is a political ideology, not an entity, therefore it cannot brainwash anyone; it is up to the politicians and the media to do that...and they all do that, no matter where they fall on the spectrum. Too much Capitalism is just as dangerous as too much Socialism/Communism.

In response to a U2U received: Western European countries are not "socialist" (8) countries, they are social democratic countries (6).

* You cannot help the poor by destroying the rich.

And as Teddy Roosevelt stated, the Rich can't impose their values on the poor and expect not to have a revolution. The Rich must ensure that the basic needs of the poor are met, or else the Rich can no longer be Rich.

* You cannot strengthen the weak by weakening the strong.

A rising tide lifts all boats, so ensure that the poorest among you are take care of, and it will trickle up.

* You cannot bring about prosperity by discouraging thrift.

Yep... so why is our economy built on consumerism?

Check out www.thestoryofstuff.com... to find out why.

Economists after world war II caused this.

* You cannot lift the wage earner up by pulling the wage payer down.

I point back to the TR stance above. You have to take care of your labor force or there wont be any labor force.

* You cannot further the brotherhood of man by inciting class hatred.

And what better way to incite class hatred than by giving tax breaks to the richest among us while telling the poor man to buck up and work harder?

* You cannot build character and courage by taking away men's initiative and independence.

Until yesterday, when the first Black man was elected President, there was plenty to discourage initiative. The assassination of most of our great leaders in the 60's did a fair job of taking away man's initiative.

The only way to incentivize a man si to give him a taste of what he can have and then show him EXACTLY how to obtain it himself. One must teach a man to fish.

* You cannot help men permanently by doing for them what they could and should do for themselves.

Exactly... so why were we giving tax breaks to big oil again?

Just to emphasize what bassofspace linked, Lincoln never said that.

Don't you just love these little things that circulate around?

Yup, the original quotation is not from Abraham Lincoln. Here's a googlebooks link to support the wiki link, too.

MODS? Can we get a HOAX tag for this one?

My fault, I should not have taken this information at face value without taking time to verify the autheticity.

In this case I was the one who was hoaxed.
