Finance ministers from across the EU yesterday backed far-reaching proposals for a global regulatory crackdown and an end to light-touch supervision of banks and financial groups, which have been blamed for world economic turmoil.

"I do think there is a need for new arrangements," Dallas Federal Reserve President Richard Fisher told Bloomberg Television in an interview.
"It is going to be very, very difficult to get so many participants to agree on a new order and yet preserve what is best about the IMF (International Monetary Fund) and World Bank," he said. "I'm not sure you are going to get that from that one meeting. Don't get your hopes up."
Europe wants to go with the whole "New World Order" type thing, but Rick up there is saying it's not likely. I can see his point - how can you get that many megalomaniacs to agree on something, let alone something that may tarnish their reputation as leader of their country?
