how do I switch it back so that the 'X' button is used to progress through screens and the Circle button is used to reverse or close out screens?

no, sorry this has to do with the ps3 while no game is being played. just the xmb (cross media bar)

I see, well I can't help. All I knew was that that's the exact problem I had with MGS because for some stupid reason that's how the designers thought it should be.
