Gone is the American dream. I am rightfully upset. I am a single father raising two children without any help from their mother (financially or otherwise) and I take NO government assistance to do it. I worked 60 hour work weeks while going to school full time in the evenings while my children were toddlers giving up precious time with them in order to earn my college degree so that I could make more and provide more for them.

You know, for someone who claims to be such a strong, self-starting, independent man, you whine like the handout-demanding underclass that you deride.

Your whole rant is "Wah! I'm a victim! Obama is going to take all my money away! Wah!" Plus, the whole crying about taxes going up is a whole lot of hot air.

I have the suspicion that everybody who's up in arms about a possible tax increase (like Joe The Plumber) aren't earning anywhere near the threshold of $250,000.

And if you are earning that much money, are your money management skills so poor that an additional $3,000/year or so is going to drive you into ruin?

If you're not earning that much money, are you really going to say "You know, I'm not going to put in any overtime this week, because that high tax rate won't make earning extra money worth my while?"

And if every person who earns over $250K annually is paying their full tax burden under the Bush tax rates, I'll eat my 1040. There are so many loopholes, deductions, and shelters available - many more so to people with means, that someone earning that $250K is not paying anywhere near 40% of that back to the government.

To keep it rolling, without any increase in taxes, how do you propose that we address the $10 trillion in national debt that we owe? We don't need to just generate a budget surplus, we need a massive financial rescue plan to cut that debt. If you, my socialism-fearing friend, can find a way to pay down that debt without raising taxes, then I'm sure that President-elect Obama would love to have a word with you.

As for the rich people just taking their money and moving on... Where else are they going to go? They're rich, if they wanted to be somewhere else, they'd be there already. And if rich people leave, does that mean all of a sudden your life is ruined? If you need to have the upper class of 0.5% of the population around to make your life economically viable, then you're not the self-starting entrepreneur that you claim to be.

I think you need to knock off the whining and pretending to be a victim. Instead of hysterically racing through right-wing propaganda, why don't you think about what is really going to happen. Because I guarantee you, that the rich didn't get that way by whining about the government taking it all away from them.

The people on this site are such drama queens... Remember all those threads that were sure the elections wouldn't happen because Bush would cancel them? Where are those people now? I took about a month away from this site and have had a much happier life.

Oh my. Were you here for the last 8 years? Did you see what basic rights have been taken away from you? Have you noticed the greed by corporations and special interests groups that kept your gasoline high and your food poisoned by Monsanto? Did you see how many people have died and how much of your hard earned money has been spent on the pretend war(s) that we are in?
Do you think this country is in a good place now? I'm just saying.

I don't think too many people are aware of the fact that the USA has never had true free market capitalism. The government has been tampering with the banking industry and the money supply from day one.

To fund the Revolutionary War, most of the States began printing fiat money (backed by nothing, mandated by the gov) like mad, hyper- inflating the currency and impoverishing the people. The young United States had no less than three nasty experiments with central banks, and America didn't become wealthy until we began to take hard money seriously. The United States became the envy of the world because we were still relatively free, worked hard, and perhaps most importantly-- our dollar was backed by silver and/or gold.

So, the European- American elite had to get their hands on America, and it schemed and plotted, blaming all the nations problems (often created by the elite themselves) on capitalism and the free market. They whined for government regulation, when government tampering was exactly what caused the problem in the first place.

So, they set up the Federal Reserve, started an income tax, engineered a depression, the whole time insisting that more government would solve all our problems.

Now we're flat broke, borderline serfs. Government and its corporate buddies stole our freedoms and our money, and still some of us are stoked to lick crumbs off the master's carpet. I don't understand why people are so willing to enslave themselves. It's all about control; our feudal masters want to enslave us. Why do so many people continually buy their B.S.?

In a free country, socialists would be at liberty to be socialists. In a socialist state, people who want to be free aren't allowed to be free. Socialists don't have the right to impose their rule upon those who wish to take no part. Not here in the USA. Not according to our Constitution. Towns can be socialist if they want. States can be socialist too... just not the Federal Government. Power was never meant to be centralized the way it is now, and just wait... it's going to get ugly.

Wherever people are educated on the truths of the Constitution, individual rights and liberty then there is hope. But hope does not reside either in the capital building or the White House. As for "Change"? That's all We the People have left in our pockets after the Wall Street bailout. Which, of course, our new buddy Obama voted for.

Hello americans,
I am from Holland and i seem to know more of what is going on in your country then you do yourself.
Did anybody know that Roosevelt declared (I dont know what the english word is for it, I am sorry for that) a state emergency.
This happened in 1933 in the times of the economical crisis of that time.
This means the constitutional laws no longer are valid and the government can seize anything they want in the country as property of the state.
Not one president, i repeat, NOT ONE PRESIDENT UNTIL NOW HAS WITHDRAWN THIS STATE OF EMERGENCY.
They all postponed it until this very day.
Shortly said: all presidents until now are corrupt as hell.

I hoped this opened your eyes a littlebit of what is going on.

I wish you best of luck in this hard times my friends.

But now, when Obama removes the Bush tax cuts, my taxes will increase,

Wow, sounds like your doing pretty good if you're in the percentage of Bush's tax cut.

I have no pity for you. I don't think you're going to starve when your energy bill increases.

I, on the hand, might have to cut back some of my spending because I wasn't in the percentage to receive Bush's tax cuts. Then again, I might not because if Obama follows through on "spreading the wealth" and helping to restore the middle-class ... things might just turn out just fine.

Anyone with children that make 43k in a family with children are affected by the Bush tax cuts... So I will see my Federal tax cuts go up at least 2500/yr because of it...

Thank you for your honest reply without the incessant flames of others here... I did not mean to set off a firestorm. I was/am upset and have since cooled my heels a bit. I have resigned myself to sit back and watch where this roller coaster goes and see what I need to do in order to adjust/adapt.

At some point in life there IS NOTHING TO EARN.

Work cannot always be rewarded. Isn't that what community service is about?
If Americans are so against socialism and benefiting the community because they want money for their work then why even make the children do community service today?

Heck, I've got nothing in my childhood from my parents because I did something "good" or "worked hard" because I knew they had nothing to give me.

I had a friend who was getting paid $250 towards a new car for every "A" he gets on his report card. And you know what? He was a Republican. I never had more than two B's on a report card before due to parental pressure and this concept of "self-reliance."

People have to realize that money is not the most important thing in life. Doesn't matter how "realistic" a person wants to be on this matter, money is worthless unless we give it value. If only a handful of people had all the money then it will be worthless because the majority of the population will no longer accept it.

Apparantly you also did not read the post very well... If you re-read it again.. you will, I am sure, see that I said that I WAS doing that for a time in order to get the skills I need in order to provide for my children so that I was NOT dependant on the STATE

Maybe you have enough information to explain why, over the last 2 years we've experienced the HIGHEST ever of Jobs Cuts in our Nation? And who's being leading through the last years?

Hmmm... Didnt the Democrats take control of congress two years ago??

You made my point about not wanting to read or deal with facts. Obama is only going to raise taxes on people making over 250,000 per year, not 42,000. Thanks, though. You helped prove my point that Obama hating paranoids are hysterical and not conversant with the facts.

Ooops. I wasn't responding to the post above.

Sure, HIS tax increases will affect those 200?250k and above... and when he ends the Bush tax cuts.. it will affect those making 42K and above also
