Yeah, after he revives immigration policies that John McCain abandoned two years ago. Policies that actually gave illegal immigrants a free pass.

John McCain did not abandon the immigration policies. He agreed with them 100%, he backed them up, he came up with the plan that helped the illegal immigrant the most; but legislation did not go through. He did not abandon as you say, he just didn't win.

Another neo-con off base.

And by the way, the immigration policies would have required the illegal immigrants to pay close to $10,000 in fees before becoming legal residents. I don't see how that's a free pass... but anyways; immigration is not in the subject; it's the fact that even in these forums there are countless people leaving in fear and ignorance.

sorry to throw off the post by why is obama labeled as "black" or "african american" when he is "bi racial" ? a well played race card for sure.

I thought I would never say this but, it is time to suck it up and let the chips fall where they may. The deck was stacked against McCain ie. race card, media bias, economy, MONEY MONEY MONEY etc.

Obama campaigned like no other in History. If he is smart, he will tow the line and keep towards the center of the aisle. He has made alot of promises to people who had virtually little hope to begin with and now the rubber will meet the road in Jan.

I would not want to be in his shoes after making all of those promises. I will watch him like a hawk as will many of you. He is our Pres. and I have to accept it or go nuts trying to deny it.

Marx did not invent the term anarchy, I don't see where you read that in my post. Nevertheless, anarchists did flock to the communist party at it's creation because they did share a common goal. But they split for the reasons I mentioned.

You tell me that there are other more "interesting" books to read than Marx, how ever, your complete misunderstanding of the finality to communist ideology proves that you have never yourself read the man's works.

Marx clearly states that communism is INTENDED to be nothing more than a transitionary governement, which is put in place to offer to the people the single most important thing Marx ever talked about : education. He believed that when the people were sufficiantly educated and cultivated, as individuals and as a society, then the communist state would become obsolete, allowing the transition to what we call anarchy : a coalition of many seperate communities, naturally operating in harmony for the well being of the said "enlightened" and cultivated individuals.

But, as i mentioned before, the anarchists, like Bakounin for example, saw the kind of problems that could occur if the state were granted too much power. And he got that right. The soviet system in Russia lasted for six months. Then it went out of control, and became a facist dictatorship.

And by the way, where I come from, "liberal" is by no means synonym of "lefty". Thats because liberalism and socialism have nothing to do with each other. Liberalism has mutated into capitalism, and nowadays, the terms are very much synonymous.

Yes, race was an issue and yes, black americans voted overwhelmingly for obama. But white americans did not support Obama.

[\quote]

You are contradicting yourself in your post. You are saying that white americans did not support Obama, but 43% of the white vote went to Obama. If you look further, white voters made up 74% of the total vote. If you take 43 % of that, you have a vastly larger number than the 95 % of the black vote that accounted for only 13% of the total vote. So what I am saying is that without the white vote, Obama would not have won this election. So please, clarify yourself when you say that white Americans did not support Obama.

Actually, it was Clinton who started the deregulation on banks and other financial systems. Was due to foreign banks giving out awesome interest rates and swiping away investors from American banks. Here's an article dated 1999 that reviews that: www.wsws.org...
Also, Clinton started the whole "give homes to low-credit people" back in 1999 too. Freddie & Fannie got in trouble today-ish because of it. Here's a NYT article from 1999 on that: digg.com...

Man, 1999 was a *bad* year! Maybe Prince was right to Party like it's 1999...

As much as I'm not a Bush fan at all (heck, I voted for Gore) - he simply reaped what Clinton sowed - and got nailed for it. And for what it's worth, Clinton was giving in to foreign and domestic pressure - and possibly rightfully so (although hindsight is now 20/20). BTW, I voted for Clinton too...

From what I can tell, the Republicans were big on deregulation.

The deregulated market led to this meltdown, and it happened under the 8 year watch of Bush, so who exactly else can you blame.

Now Obama will spread the wealth, and not just to the corporate elite. Wait and see, you might actually get some of it yourself.

If I didn't earn it I don't want it, and by the way if you take from the rich and give to the poor (robinhood may I)...sooner or later those that desire the once American dream, will say the @%$$ with it and say whats the use of starting a business to give it all to others....@#%% git a job and get off your @&& is what I say to those lazy Americans who what a hand out!!!!!!

do you people honestly believe, poor people are gonna get monthly, weekly checks from obama?

you guys here are so ignorant and uneducated, it shows in your bitterness from last nights election

i hate having to repeat over and over

so do research, he is not handing or spreading wealth to people

Obama is the President Elect.

Obama is black.

It would seem to be pretty clear, based on the above facts, that race is no longer an issue. The majority of Americans have proven to the world, and themselves, that this is so. (Yes it still exist here, but not at near the same level). Could we please leave the race card with the jokers out of the deck from here on out? Please.....it is clearly NOT the issue anymore.

Was it a catalyst in Obama getting there? Definitely, but further discussion on that topic will simply inhibit our forward progression.

The Democrats ran a good hard race with Hillary and Obama at the helm. The Republicans didn't have anyone standing out and finally settled for McCain. I'm scared too, but more pissed about the Republicans and third parties fight. They didn't do anything to raise the bar for their party and the Dem's won a landslide victory for the Republicans ignorance. It's four years of socialism at it's best and we better find someone more dynamic and charismatic as Barrack or it's eight years of socialism with a chance to jump straight to Communism.

What Obama said about his policies is pure socialism and spread the wealth thugness and we are in for a ride. I'm afraid that if we disagree with Obama we will be called out for Racism and all who hail him will agree. I for one will not leave this country and will fight my butt off to reject socialism. Now all we can do is wait and see who's gonna be in his administration and what he does with it. Thank God Democrats didn't win the house.

This sounds more like "reality" to me than sos37's arguments of Doom and Demise (not Doom and Gloom... for the Right-winged ones, Obama is Doom and Demise... Doom and Goodbye). Pitty

Best comment so far. Though we also have to know what he's about to get himself into: A Country with two wars, highly in-debt, with an internal economic crisis and God knows what else. Personally, I wouldn't want the President's job as of right now; any decision can be too good or too catastrophic. We're at high-stake, and a McCain/Palin ticket didn't convince me of having the job done. 1 - McCain is a War Monger, 2 - Palin is not ready for the job yet.

I don't think Obama will keep all his promises. He will use the excuse every politician does once they get into office- we're in too deep for him to get us out. He already said in his speech last night "the government can't fix everything." Already making excuses.

No longer do I have to work the long hours to provide for my children and I spend time with them every day and have every weekend off too boot... but ONLY because of the Hard work that I poured into myself and not accepting a HANDOUT from the government... And just MAYBE you would explain just how having OBAMA as president my hours would magically get cut.. and my expenses magically decrease to boot???

Kinda wish Obama was elected back when you were working those 60 hour weeks making 40K to make ends meet and put food on the table.

I'm sure that tax money would be worth a hell of a lot more to you then than it is now. That is if it even happens.

Everyone needs to stop whining about hypothetical issues, deal with the fact he's going to be president, and just let the man make some decisions. Hell he's not even president for another couple months.

Will he succeed? Maybe. Will he be horrible? Maybe. At this point we're just wasting bandwidth arguing/whining/cheering/complaining over it.

Honestly, the posts in this thread are making me sick. How have all of you people become so jaded and paranoid that just because the Democrats won a presidential election that you believe that America will suddenly turn into a Marxist nightmare? Do you pay attention to reality at all? I will gladly admit to being a 9/11 Truther, I believe in UFO's and Extraterestrial Life, I believe that a relatively small cabal of elites essentially rule the world, and that there are those hard at work trying to bring about a New World Order, but... seriously?

Let's just take a look at where your tax dollars really go shall we?
www.warresisters.org...

Now, lets compare how much we spend on killing people vs helping people...

Current Military $965 billion +
Past Military $484 billion =
$1,449 Trillion
VS

Human Resources $789 billion

Hmm... seems like we have a much higher priority on killing than helping. How HUMANE does that seem to you? Would anyone agree that this simple figure qualifies America as a "Warloving" nation?

Also, ask yourselves all this question: Over the last 40 years, how many times have we engaged in defensive military action vs offensive military action?

Since the end of World War 2 we have bombed over 50 nations across the globe, overthrown democratically elected governments in various nations only to replace them with more "Business Friendly" dictators or puppet regimes, and many many more horrific activities. But how many people have we helped?

Some people seem to think that we really must fight this "War on Terror". I pity those people, for they have no sense of reality.

Annual Causes of Death in the United States

Tobacco 435,0001
Poor Diet and Physical Inactivity 365,0001
Alcohol 85,000
Microbial Agents 75,000
Toxic Agents 55,000
Motor Vehicle Crashes 26,347
Adverse Reactions to Prescription Drugs 32,000
Suicide 30,622
Incidents Involving Firearms 29,000
Homicide 20,308
Sexual Behaviors 20,000
All Illicit Drug Use, Direct and Indirect 17,000
Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs Such As Aspirin 7,600
Marijuana 0

From here...

Now, lets see how many American civilians were killed as a result of "terrorism" in 2007...

U.S. citizens worldwide killed as a result of incidents of terrorism: 19
People worldwide killed as a result of terror attacks: 22,685

From U.S. State Department's "Country Reports on Terrorism Statistical Annex"

Gee golly gosh! It seems that "terrorism" really isn't so much of a problem for us here in the good old US of A, as exactly 400 times as many Americans die from Aspirin than "terrorism".

One might bring up the deaths of our soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan at this point. I don't include them in "American Deaths by Terrorism". The only reason our soldiers get killed by "terrorists" is because they are occupying the "terrorists" countries. Ask yourself, What do you think would happen to Chinese soldiers if they occupied Texas?

Even if one did include the deaths of our solders in "terrorism deaths" for 2007 (1,015) the figure only jumps to 1034... Still, Aspirin killed 7.35 times more Americans in 2007.

My point in all these statistics is to show that maybe, just maybe, we should reprioritize what we spend our money on as a nation. Do any of you really think that we can ever bomb our way to peace? Kill our way to happiness? Invade our way to security?

Does anyone realize that if we put just a 1/10th of 1% tax on all financial instrument transactions (stocks, derivatives, etc) that we could generate about $1.2 Trillion in revenues for the government? Goodbye Income tax!

Anyways, I voted for Nader, but I'm glad Obama won. People who care about others are always perferred to those who hatemonger.

I hope all those who see this election as a defeat for America are the minority.
America has voted Obama by a landslide because they believed the man, thats included a lot of american, politicians and economists smarter than the fearmongers.
So in my opinion all the whiners here are the most unpatriotic.
And their fears are unfounded and baseless, they "think" Obama 's agenda will be the "end" of America. Surely Obama is a fascist social communist who wants to take their guns and give them to the needy! Come on guys, get a grip and unite.

Seriously, they really crack me up.
