World Hopes Obama Can Halt U.S. Slide

Curious, isn't it, that Americans, so many of whom think governments should stay out of their hair, should spend so much time, energy and money electing them.

Well, we'll find out tomorrow if Barack Obama is such a shoo-in as public opinion polls and election wizards have been telling us. But I don't know whether whatever happens will make much difference to our relationship with that country, still great despite its failings.

Canadians tend to support Democrats rather than Republicans, since that party, symbolized by a jackass, is the closest thing to Canadian Tories with the reddest necks. The other party, with an elephant as its symbol, is regarded as too ready to roll over on us and hurt more than our feelings.

Obama, though, is suspect among a lot of Republicans, not just because of his racial heritage but because he's a "Marxist socialist" who's associated with the wrong people, including his grandmother, who are "anti-American radicals."

According to Paul Cellucci, the former Republican governor who was once U.S. ambassador to our country, Canadians, too, should be wary if Obama makes it to the White House. Cellucci says we should remember Obama's remarks in Ohio about renegotiating the North American Free Trade Agreement.

If Obama gets in, and as many Democrats are elected to Congress as polls suggest, Canada is going to have to deal with "one-party government" in Washington, Cellucci declared. Our multi-party government in a minority parliament won't stand a chance.

I've noticed that Canadians are not the only people who put more faith in Obama than John McCain. People in other lands, even China, are rooting for him. Some bearded guy in pyjamas reputed to speak for al-Qaeda called on God to "humiliate Bush and his party ... degrade and defy him."

Hmmm.
From what I've gathered over the last few years is that the world would love nothing more than to see the US go down in defeat, every which way, and completely out of existence.

There has been so much anti-US rhetoric, even coming from people within its own country, that these people would want nothing more than have America extinct as a nation.
Well all I can say to this is "be careful what you wish for!" because the election is tomorrow.

But now I'm really confused.
Does the rest of the world know this will undoubtably come about with an Obama victory?
..or are they now back peddling, have they finally realized that if the US goes down, so will the rest of the world?

Why the change of opinion all of a sudden?

I think that where the economic future of the US is concerned, everyone is drawing at straws at this point. They hope that Obama will right the ship . . . but that's all there is.

As the old saying goes, hope in one hand and crap in the other and see which one fills up first.

The reality of this whole mess is that it will take a heck of a lot more than a charming face and a rhetorical orator to get this country out of the mess that it is in.

There needs to be a rebuilding of the foundation of our economy . . . it cannot continue on a whim and a prayer that there is something behind all of this 'credit' based paper . . . that there is some way we can individually as consumers and collectively as a country find a way to live within our means in a manner that does not pit the various levels of our socioecomic strata against each other.

The reality is, we've got so many competing interests in that strata, and such an uphill climb ahead of us, it is going to take a yeoman's effort to even start the rebuilding process in a manner that does not bankrupt us generations into the future.

Maybe some people see Obama as a good start . . . or maybe it the specter of a new administration provides just enough of a distraction at this point to get peoples' minds off of the obvious carnage that is headed our way regardless of our leadeship incarnate.

That is the militaristic republican USA. I think the world would be very happy to have a superpower democratic USA that does not abuse its power abroad for corporate profits.

I totally disagree that the rest of the World will go down if Obama wins, I doubt America will go down either.

What you hear from around the World, is the World screaming that it cnt afford to put up with another Bush, he has threatened his way into dozens of countries around the World, with his if your not with us your against us, this had several small countries shaking in their boots, and other countries feeling they were obligated to America so joined the coalition against countries which we were told had supported terrorists, or threatened World peace because they has WMD's, which turned out to be fake and a set up.

More policies like that of Bush and the World is going to smash into the brick wall its been heading towards for years now, and all because of promises we made to stand by our allies, that cant and wont go on anymore.

Through treaties, and a friendship built up with Thatcher and Reagan, i know Britain and America became the greatest of friends, but because of your current Administration, who have been proven to have lied, and in fact are being investigated by people inside your own Government for war crimes, we want an end to it, and i do mean everyone, Goverments and people.

Even your own American people are sick and tired of bodies returning home, some of them are even under siege from a family protesting the funerals of your dead, with no thought for the grieving families.

From where i am sitting McCain looks and sounds like more of Bush, so of course we want Obama as your next President, we want our Soldiers home with their families where they should be, we dont want a war with Iran, or anyone else for that matter, we have had war up to our necks, and are sick and tired of it all, its time for a different strategy now, the first one has obviously failed.

What i fear the most is, if McCain does win, and he does turn out to be another Bush or a continuation of the Bush policies, then i fear, the rest of the World is going to turn its back on America, we cannot afford to continue, the whole World is at the start of a financial meltdown, and its because of American bankers, their greed and corruption, even after the huge bail out, it still continues, nothing has been done to stop these people.

And on top of that we have seen McCain through his patsy Palin, open the race hatred can of worms, a can of worms America had convinced the World was a thing of the past, and the continued repetitive, accusations of communism and branding a decent man of being a terrorist, when all sides of this election are just as guilty as everyone else, IMO America is destroying itself, you have again become complacent, as you were just before 9/11, with that it will never happen to us attitude, well guess what, it did, and now there is a different crisis, but still all we see is hatred.

Sadly i think there is only going to be one chance this time, if its messed up, then yes America will be a shadow of its former self, America hasn't had thousands of years to build, to find its true self, your country is very young still, and IMO to big for its boots, most of the World has had an Empire at one time in history, as has America so it thought more recently, but what America failed to realise is, with every Empire has come adaption, not from the country's who were annexed, but from the Empire itself.


So tell me, do we the rest of the World have a point? or will it continue to fall on deaf ears like usual? one thing i know for sure, it wont be business as usual for America, not unless your people fight for a change, i fear one day it is the American people who will be looking around the World, for them to come rescue you from what you cant see.

What i have said is what i believe and see and hear every day, we are tired of your Governments aggression and interference, only you as a people can fight for what is right, rather than what will fill your pockets quicker.

It's human error to depend on another human, so I find this a tad interesting. We are just NOT fool-proof.

The coming days and weeks are about to get interesting...

I do not believe any one single President can significantly alter even our own economy much less the global economy. If a few hundred billion dollars can't fix it what good is standing in front of a teleprompter and reading a speech going to do? That goes for Bush, McCain, or Obama.

An oxymoron example if I've ever seen one.

With leading democrats already calling for gutting the U.S. military - Barney Frank calls for a 25% cut - the U.S. won't be a superpower for long.

USA wont need all this military force if they could just stick to their bases, focus on border patrol and stop trying to be the world police. Im sure 50% cut would still leave the US on top of the superpowers list.

Just look at this list, it makes me sick.
