He was talking to a guest. The guest was the one that said it.

Don't you think that the guests might realize the satirical nature of Colbert and not be completely forthright in their answers or perhaps even lie just to keep with the spirit of the program?

You must admit, it's a possibility.

There was nothing satirical about what the guest said. He was simply giving us a glimpse of a conversation between himself and Obama.
