Colbert was interviewing Jeff Tweedy (who played fundraisers for Obama) when he slipped out this little nugget of information.

Jeff Tweedy - We asked him if we could see him at the inaugural, in 2005 when we met him, and he said to us "if Hillary invites us"

Colbert - wow... wow. Even he didn't believe his hype

You can watch it on Hulu around 15:10

It seems that Hillary was poised to win, so what changed?

2005? Wouldn't that be GWB's second term's ceremony?

The conversation between Obama and Tweedy happened in 2005 when they met. They were talking about the next election.

Sorry for the confusion

You do realize that the Colbert report is Parody, tongue in cheek, mocking of conservative talking heads and not really meant to be taken very seriously?

Yes. How does that change what was said? I hope to hear from you.

He was talking to a guest. The guest was the one that said it.

Don't you think that the guests might realize the satirical nature of Colbert and not be completely forthright in their answers or perhaps even lie just to keep with the spirit of the program?

You must admit, it's a possibility.

There was nothing satirical about what the guest said. He was simply giving us a glimpse of a conversation between himself and Obama.
