Hey everyone, I'm new to ATS, well not so new as my fiance and I have been trolling these forums ever since I found them a few weeks ago while I was looking up debunking Pangaea. I've been trying to convince him that no he isn't going to implode or have his mind blown away by his extraterrestrial counterpart with a mullet.

Anywho, I thought I'd make it official, so here I am and I look forward to posting with the best of you!

Like the late Robert Jordan wrote,

Perhaps the word you're looking for is "Lurking", not trolling?

Either way, welcome!

Haha, it's a term from World of Warcraft, troll is essentially a Lurker.

It comes from players who hop on the forums and post replies on "alts" (usually a level 1 troll) with some ludicrous name like LAWLIMATROLL. Anyone who just sits around and views forums all day is also considered a troll

Troll or Lurker whichever you prefer

Thanks for the welcome!

Perhaps we should abolish those labels all together... seeing as they really don't mean anything and only give fools a means of demeaning others... don't you agree?

Labels, while sometimes biased, or false can also have a positive impact on people as well.
Without labels how would we identify with our surroundings?

Coca-Cola for example, that's a label everyone recognizes (whether they like it or not)
Brainwashed, we're all familiar with that term here on ATS, that's a label as well, it's one word (or two depending on how you look at it) that speaks volumes to whoever is on the receiving end of it
Fe/She/Male, more labels that place us in categories for identification

Our society thrives off of labeling everything and anything it can get it's hands on, from the type of toilet paper we use to the different stages of sleep we experience.

Maybe I just look at it from an advertising perspective....haha
We need labels! lol

I couldn't agree more. Perhaps - one day if I decide to do a doctorate - I'll do a study on why the human race needs to put labels on everything - and even more so - everyone...

We’re pretty “against” name-calling in general (I know Noob or Newbie usually gets wacked) but alas we’ll have a hard time removing “troll” from the board, as it is rooted into the culture.
