I think most of the staff and/or Mods have sock puppets that allow them to participate on ATS and not have the title hanging over what they post.

And why not ?
They are all members first, but they chose to take on additional responsibilities for the greater good of the community. If they want to be able to post their thoughts, ideas and information without the Mod title, good for them.
At least they can have a voice without the authoritative stigma hanging over every word.
