to begin with, i am a long time reader on here, first post of this nature.

I was laying in bed just now, 2:15am EST on Sunday Nov 2nd, 2008 (with the 1 hour turn-back for DST taken into account).

I saw above the tree lines (not that far above) what looked to be like a shooting star/meteorite race across the sky. However it was longer, and it didn't fade out like a shooting star normally does. it went through my field of vision in about 2 seconds. i jumped up and from my angle saw it farther to my left.

I started thinking in my head what it could be. My wife asked what was wrong, and I explained that i thought i might have seen a UFO, in the traditional sense, i could not explain what it was. We were talking about for a few minutes, trying to debunk what I had seen.

Then we heard screaming.....it was very chilling. We cracked our bedroom window and heard it over and over. it sounded artificial, not like a human, so we started guessing it was an owl perhaps? i don't know what they sound like, but i have heard there are some that make wild ass noises.

Then about 2 minutes later, we heard a swarm of sirens go past our neighborhood and off to the east, where the light had gone.

I wish I was more prepared and had more than just a story to share.

So question, where can I find out if there is to be a meteor shower? Is there some website that records this information?

2ndly, is there any type of owl that makes a screaming noise like a human?

The answers to those questions would set my mind at ease.

Rabbits do not scream. Just so you know.

Not a one liner.

Yes, rabbits DO scream when they are freaked out. I have 4, my babies screamed the first time we went in to pick them up, and it is freaky as heck.

Just so you know, yes they bloody well do scream. I keep rabbits and have kept them for all of my adult life. They scream when they are in terror, when they fear for their lives.

Might want to check things out before you disinfo. Makes you look like a 'tard.

fox screaming
horrible noises, but maybe its just a fox (hopefully it is anyway!)

Ok, that explains one part of it. The fox scream is exactly what I heard. EXACTLY. Thanks for easing my mind about that.

If you heard sirens in a particular place/direction, one option is to call the police, and enquiry about whether there's been something happening. They might of course not tell you, but at least it's a start.

Question your neighbours, especially those who could be where you heard the scream & the sirens.

Finally, you may as well want to go yourself & explore the places.

Must be somewhat scary, but you never know, it can be also something very simple... I wish you could have taken pics or a video... I reckon that most of the times, we are simply not ready to shoot for anything that happens!

Thanks for the suggestions, I agree I was not expecting it at all. It was exciting/scary at the same time.

I have talked to neighbors, and apparently multiple people saw the light. A buddy of mine who lives almost 30 minutes away said some of his neighbors saw the same thing. There are 3 others on that National UFO Reporting site that also list the same fireball like object.

It gives me credence to what I saw, however I now know what the screams were (Fox). The screeching owls and even rabbit screams were close, but as soon as I heard the fox screams on youtube, it was exactly the same of what I heard. And I have seen foxes many times in my back yard (we back to deep woods that go down to winter's run, a stream that runs through the entire county). The sirens I cannot confirm, Bel Air State Police say nothing but an accident in the Abingdon area that time last night, and county police didn't have anything between 2-3 last night.

Thanks for all the help. I must say I was weary about posting as I have been a reader of this site since 2005, and have seen people torn apart, but everyone was very helpful and accepting, and I appreciate that.
