Venezuela and Russia are planning to conduct joint air force exercises in 2009, the Venezuelan air force chief has said.

"Joint Russian-Venezuelan air force drills have been planned for next year. We could have participated in joint naval exercises due in November if they included a simulated air attack, but this has not been included in the plans so far," Luis Acosta was quoted as saying by the Venezuelan Ministry of Communications and Information on its website.

russian newsroom

U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice said in mid-August that the Bush administration was unhappy with flights by Russian strategic bombers near U.S. borders and accused Moscow of playing a "dangerous game."

I agree. The reply was:

"I do not know how such conclusions are drawn. Neither Russia nor Venezuela have any plans to attack anyone. Russia and Venezuela enjoy cooperation basing on the norms of international law," Lavrov said.

I wouldn't put it passed them to pull something. I wonder how such conclusions are drawn? (sarcastically). Who was it that wanted others to join them in creating an anti-US Alliance? They have been taunting, running down the US and have been very happy to see the US supremacy (I believe it was put) fall apart with the crisis. I wonder how such conclusions are drawn?
I'm sorry but I don't trust them one iota. I would keep an eye on any and all moves they make. Including their alliances. I don't buy for one minute that nothing is going on. That's my feelings on it.

As someone who has been around air force bases for the past 5 years, I dont see this as any big deal.

The US and other countries have joint exercises all year long, all over the states. My time in Alaska, I was surrounded by foreign military all year long.

Yes, Russia has been toying with the US by flying into US air space over Alaska. But I dont think the joint exercises they will be conduction really many anything bad at all.

The timing of everything is what I am concerned about. The tension between the States and Russia is so thick. Missile demonstrations designed to warn the West against pressuring Russia. The US' continued advances in the east. Any possible thing could break the camel's back between the two.
