7,000-year-old hill excavated in Iran

Mehr-Ali hill, about 7000 years old and an important archeological site.
A 7,000-year-old hill called 'Mehr-Ali' has re-emerged from under 7 meters (23 feet) of water in Iran's southern Province of Fars.

The historical Mehr Ali hill was submerged under water in 2006, after the Mulla Sadra dam in which it is situated was filled. The incident suspended an excavation project at the site.

Drought has now completely dried out the site, allowing excavation to resume on the untouched layers at the base of the hill, laden with historical and archeological remains.

Archeologists say some of these pristine layers date back 4 to 5 thousand years before Christ.

Mehr-Ali hill has so far yielded many signs of human occupation including a large number of pottery pieces and the kilns they were made in.

The shear amount of pottery found shows that Mehr-Ali must have once been an important location.

Day by day the evidence is pushing our 'civilized' history back to the time of the great flood.

Thank you for sharing this. I can't wait to see what surprises they find inside (or beneath).

I suspect that eventually they will come to realize we have been 'civilized' a lot longer than 3-4000 years.
