After seeing the news recently about robot dogs being used, and obviously knowing that robots are what the state and private companies plan to use to oppress us, I now wonder what our best defense is?

Normally when we think of buying weapons, we think about being about to deal with animal/human flesh, and maybe armour like kevlar, but with a robot, I've no idea what is best against that.

Also, not just guns, as I only have a license for certain types of shotguns and some types of rifles (although in a serious situation X, I would be fine with breaking that law), I think we would need to think about using stuff like homemade EMP devices or the like to disable the robots.

What do you guys think?

What are the best conventional weapons to take out robots, and is it feasible to make our own EMP or similar weapons?

magnets

they will drain and erase microhips and what not

so i say use a magnet

magnetic whip. frag nades with magnetic shrapnel. water balloons (lol) if they are not well armored.

more than likely they will be "hardened" against EMPs.

'Magentic whip' sounds interesting, I did a google, but it just told me about antennas, could you (or anyone) point me towards information about what this is?

Thanks.

Also, just LOL@"a long stick with some dog poo on the end", maybe that works with real dogs, but I'm not sure how effective that will be against robotic ones!

Obstacles they can't negotiate... if they can't follow where you go... problem solved.

Physics tells us that F=MA (force = mass x acceleration).

So..... hit the damn thing with a car.

Alternatively, use the heaviest projectile you can find at the highest velocity you can impart.

Boulder down a hill or
Roll log down a hill or
Elevated log suspended on each end with rope or
?

On second thought .... eliminate the operator?

1. Water. It always work in cartoons that i watched back in the day.
2. Dry ice
3. T101
4. T200
5. Sarrah Connor
6.Will Smith
7. Some porno on DVD to distract them. As seen in "Futurama"
8. If they say "Roger, Roger" call George Lucas so he can send some Jedi Knights to help you

star for anonymous. hit it with a car... lol

what about belittling them on a moral level. maybe tell them that their anti freeze is half urine. tell them that their mothers were toasters and vibrators.

Definitely high power magnets. Aim for the "head" or wherever the central processor you think would be located.
Depending on the metal used, something highly corrosive! Acids, or something that can make them burn or crumble, or even corrode/rust quickly. Muriatic Acid with copper is one way!
If you can make thermite, and be able to creep up to them close, use that! Sticky bombs maybe? (If they have treads instead of legs).

Well... when I was a kid we were taught to steal the big key out of the robot's back and wait for it to run down, but I guess we're not talking about cute little waddling robots with sparkly eyes any more, are we?

Short of laser-guided DU munitions, or, as you say, some kind of EMP device to try and overwhelm the processors, I haven't a clue. How about a glue-bomb to screw up all the various sensors and cameras? A portable green laser projector to warm those electronics and munitions up a bit? Sometimes it'd be enough just to knock the robot over.

Another robot with half its internals exposed. For distraction obviously.

However, to answer the question in more realistic terms, you need to cut their power source. unplug the thing, or take the battery out.

Any explosive.

EMP.

Mass to crush them.

If Robots are sent out to oppress and/or fight us....

EMP devices seem too hard to make for an average person, working with average equipment.

Water would probably be only as damaging as it would be to an automobile.

In the Star Wars movie "The Empire Strikes Back," we see that the giant four-legged AT-AT walkers were defeated by immobilizing them. This will be a great way to defeat a robot of any sort. Just figure out the movement capabilities and limitations, and use it against them.

Throwing hot tar at a robots cameras seems like a good idea also. Hot Tar Grendades FTW xD

    1. Find an old microwave oven at a second hand store
(the newer ones are lower wattage)..

    2. Remove the door.

    3. Get a heavy-duty extension cord or a high wattage power source.

    4. Install a couple of handles and/or a sight for fun.

Voila!

Semi-portable EMP cannon. Take that ya frackin' toasters!

I think his idea is of interest, on a long cable it may be safe. Microwave beams tend to be directional too, so as long as it's not pointing at you it might be OK (well, in an emergency anyway!). I think in a microwave oven there are reflectors to make it 'fill' the oven.

Another source for microwave 'cannons' might be traffic lights, and the sensors they use to auto-open supermarket doors, they are based on similar tech, although they might be too low power at a distance, as they have to be safe enough that you can walk/drive under them.

Some great ideas coming out though. I'm not personally convinced on water though, I think that will be one of the minimum things any war-bot would be made to withstand.

The idea of hitting it with a car sounds funny, but maybe there is some truth, isn't this the idea of 'stopping power'? Maybe we need those Dirty Harry guns, or some blunderbus.

EDIT to make image work.

Just make sure it is pointed away from you. The higher the wattage, the more effective over distance due to radio wave attenuation.

In reality, it would only work in close quarters and this also assumes the toasters are not EMP shielded.

primitive variation of a MW weapon would look like this: A microwave oven from the kitchen with the protective shielding removed from the door and replaced by a metal funnel. And then the waves can get through walls (Pictures 1, 2, 3).

The effects of the MW beam on the victims include extreme weariness, headache, irregular heartbeat, diarrhea, painful testis, damaged nervous system and internal organs, burned skin and eye damage. Later effects include blindness, heart attack, stroke and cancer. In the last months by some victims, cancerous tumors have been diagnosed.
