I do think your post is basically right, but there is a bigger picture. The U.S. is not China's only customer. The comparison can be made with the U.S. and Europe in the 1950s through the 70s. Manufacturing during that time dropped way off in the U.S. because its customers had been dropping off. If the same thing were to happen to China they would change but still be strong.
