Senator Obama Crowd Salute

I just received an e-mail in regards to some really wild salute of sorts, which many Obama supporters have been displaying at his rallies. I looked into the History of this symbol, and here is what I discovered [taken from e-mail]:

THIS is the "Odal Rune", a Pagan symbol that was adopted by Die Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, AKA The National Socialist German Workers' Party {ie, NAZI Deutschen (NAZI Germans) }, and it represents the supposed unity amongst those of a Pure Race, Bloodline, or Group. So point in fact, it came to represent the National Socialist Movement (ie, NAZISM).

The Wiking Jugend (Viking Youth), used this symbol up until at least 1994. It was also an emblem worn upon the Uniforms of the 7th SS-Freiwilligen-Gebirgs Abteilung Prinz Eugen (7th SS-Volunteer-Mountain Division Prince Eugen) during WWII. The "Prince Eugen" was also the name of a NAZI Admiral Hipper Class-Heavy Cruiser in use during WWII. (The "Prince Eugen" was seized by the United States Navy, stripped, and then scrapped during Atomic Bomb Testing in the Pacific). Bottom line, this is an SS Symbol.

I don't see what youre seeing and plucky is tired.

It looks like, to me, the international symbol for vagina, at least the triangle ones.

Im not for Obama, but are suggesting that there is some kind of scheme to somehow bring him up as essentially a new Hitler/fascist archetype?

I think this is a stretch. Oh, and the pic of the people in the crowd with them making the triangle symbol... I think that is Jay-Z's hand symbol as shown here www.mtv.com...

He got sued over it, which I didn't know. Anyway, I think Jay-Z endorsed Obama recently- maybe it was in reference to that. Not sure when that pic was taken.

I have never seen the round symbol as shown in the last pic. But it doesn't look like the Socialist pic to me.

And frankly if that e-mail had any shred of merit Faux News would have been all over it like white on rice.

Most lame attempt at associating Obama with Hitler I've ever seen.

The Sign of Progress graphic was designed by a creative agency that isn't associated with Obama that wanted to try and cash in on making a hand gesture that could be used at rallies. It's also obviously making an 'O' with the hands rather than the diamond in the other pictures. Source

In your picture it shows three people doing the hand gesture, and even if it was some horribly offensive Nazi salute, I don't see anyone else doing it, I don't see Obama doing it, I don't see five thousand people doing it in unison.

Also, how does Hitler = Obama when Obama isn't the one doing the hand gesture Hitler is doing? How can you associate Obama to Hitler when it's the crowd that is doing it?

Who knows what their motivation for throwing their hands up like that was, doubt it was because they were trying to remind people of an obscure propaganda photo of Hitler's hands.

This method of propaganda is called "Transfer"

Its when you try and associate a particular target with a loaded or unpleasant symbol that invokes emotion in the audience.

The goal being, when the person sees or hears of the target, these images subconsciously arise in the mind of the audience, and they unknowingly associate the target with the emotions they would attach to their perception of what the symbol means.

This is nothing but a loaded propaganda-ist post.

History tends to repeat itself. Let's look at similarities...


Hitler was about hope and change (Obama's campaign slogans).

Hitler blamed the rich Jews for the natins troubles (Obama blames the white right).

Hitler was a charismatic speaker (Obama is a charismatic speaker)

Hitler spoke and women fainted (Obama spoke and women fainted)

Hitler had his own flag (Obama has his)

Hitler had his own seal ( Obama has his)

Hitler was a democratic socialist (Obama is a democrat socialist)

Hitler changed the laws of power structure (Obama wants to change the US Constitution).

Hitler was praised in the press (Obama is praised in the press).


There's a few transferable similarities as history threatens to repeat itself yet once again...

You could actually take any person, and find similarities like that...

that is an entirely different propaganda technique in itself... but I don't think that was your intention

Good thread. Whether or not the crowds know what they are endorsing, it shows his ability to manipulate the unthinking masses. They now have a salute to recognize each other with.

Next, he will tell them what to say.

When he tells them what to do (be quiet, sit down, give me your guns), then look out.

Propaganda is a powerful weapon...

First off, this pseudo-swastika thing is a truckload of BS, in my opinion, and (as I said in an earlier post) Reductio ad Hitlerum in its purest form.

As to Obama's ability, he's shown a rare ability to mobilize masses, and we need that in the time of trouble we are in, due to inept, corrupt and often stupid Republican leadership who mostly asked of people to not think.
