Transsexual gene link identified
news.bbc.co.uk
Australian researchers have identified a significant link between a gene involved in testosterone action and male-to-female transsexualism.
DNA analysis from 112 male-to-female transsexual volunteers showed they were more likely to have a longer version of the androgen receptor gene.
The genetic difference may cause weaker testosterone signals, the team reported in Biological Psychiatry. (visit the link for the full news

I'm extremely interested in this article! It's fascinating to me how much science is coming out to indicate that alternate gender identities are
partially or mostly physiologically based.
I've always thought transgenderism could be considered a birth defect, deserving of medical care rather than ridicule, and telling a TG individual to
"Snap out of it" is as absurd as telling a mentally impaired child to "Just act normal."

I think there's many factors.
It could be different amounts of estrogen/testosterone crossing the womb during pregnancy. If reincarnation is true then I think it coudld result
after a long string of incarnations as one gender, then a sudden incarnation of the other. But that can't be proven.
I don't there even has to be a reason why other sexualities happen. They just need to be accepted... but evidence like this does help gain that
acceptace.

I hope they didn't discover this to find a cure. These are the most beautiful and fun people in the world. I wish society wouldn't make it so hard
for them to be accepted.

Well it would sure help if when someone does try to understand ...that they would not be called a homophobe etc .
It was also help if they would quit having those naked parades etc ..
that only brings negative attention to them ..which they say they do not want or need ..

What we now call "transgenders" have existed since the dawn of humanity, and they are treated essentially as a
third gender in many traditional societies.
Gender is more fluid than people think, I suspect that there at least three human genders, but perhaps as many as five, as the
Bugis people believe..
Similarly, as discussed in the Wikipedia article I linked, multi-gendered species are not uncommon in nature, hence the five-gendered
side-blotched_lizard.

I agree wholly. I'm not TG myself but have and currently count some of my best friends from that community.

Thanks for pointing that out!
Many cultures considered androgeny a sign of spiritual perfection, and third/fourth/and additional gendered people were often considered holy, since
theycould view things from a masculine and femenine perspective. I think some tribes recognized up to 7 genders!
This is why it really irks me when certain groups say that alternate sexualities are a recent deviation or that they indicate the fall of a specific
civilization. They in fact far predate the current paradigm and have in fact been integral parts of many societies.

Just. Don't. Look.
Pride parades were originally (until a few years ago) called pride marches, because they were protests against the pathetic notions harboured
by people with tiny narrow minds who get scared when they see two guys holding hands and think they're going to start raping and eating babies. Just
as every single minority who has been oppressed has done throughout the ages, they fought back. They didn't get violent, they figured out the best
way to show the world how harmless they are is to just have a parade and show solidarity. I've been to a Pride parade in London, and I'm going to
the Berlin Love Fest next year.
I hate to say it, Simplynoone, but even after people took hours to spell out to you why gay people are no different to you, you still seem to
be harbouring some homophobic sentiments. I'm saying this not to be offensive, but to try to help you. I thought we were making great progress, but
apparently not.
Gay = Straight = Transgender = short = tall = man = woman = NORMAL.

That may not have been th reason behind the research but you just know that someone will suggest it and use it to manipulate the sheep.
Good find btw asmeone2
