Amendment 48 trails by 41 points in poll
Measure would define fertilized egg as a person

Amendment 48 is getting clobbered by more than a 2-to-1 ratio, making it unlikely that Colorado will become the first state in the nation to grant constitutional rights to a fertilized egg.

Now, Colorado has been a "red" state for a while and they were one a few to pass an amendment (later repealed) against gay marriage. It is a "battleground" state that may be important next week. Just two days ago, over 100,000 people came out to see Obama here and he didn't fail to inspire.

The issue of amendment 48 is one worthy of discussion of course. It seems as if the conversation would be one sided in Colorado if you went by the poll.

Yes on 48 - Who can honestly argue that life doesn't begin at conception? This isn't a religious issue, as many have claimed. This is acknowledging what science has long put to rest. There is a beating heart, and the formation of a human life in the early weeks of pregnancy.

What is at stake? If a pregnant mother and her unborn child are killed, is it one death or two. Few would argue that it is only one. Especially if an autopsy reveals that, wow, there really is a fully formed baby in the mother's womb...that was killed too!!

Why is it okay for a mother to kill her unborn child? why aren't men up in arms over this? It is the 'woman's right to choose'... (I am a a woman, by the way).

Rape, incest, etc. are horrendous acts and should be punishable by the law, to the fullest extent. But, the baby that is conceived could be loved and nurtured by the millions of families waiting to adopt. Easy choices? Absoloutely not.

Statistics are clear that cancer rates for women who have had an abortion are alarmingly high. Intersting that breast cancer, which Planned Parenthood continues to ask for millions in funding through Susan B. Komen fund-raising, is linked to higher rates of abortion.

Come on, let's at least be honest about what is true and not true and stop the senseless killing of unborn life.

Hello. As an update to my previous post that obviously gained so much attention, Amendment 48, which defines "Personhood" got blasted by a 3-1 margin last night - not to mention Colorado was an expected but still nice win for Obama.

"Personhood" push rejected
The amendment called for full legal rights from the point of conception. Foes saw a Pandora's box.

Colorado for Equal Rights and other supporters of Amendment 48 said it would make Colorado the first state to guarantee the pre-born equal rights to life, liberty and due process of law.

The amendment, they said, would provide the legal foundation for ending abortion.
