AUSTRALIA lags behind many other democracies in media freedom because of its "outrageous" anti-terror laws and lack of protection for journalists' sources, a new report says.

The report described Australia's anti-terror laws as "simply outrageous''.

"A journalist who might interview a person suspected of terrorism, is at risk of up to five years in jail,'' it said.

Australians all let us rejoice, for we are young and free - except for our press.

People wonder why the real news gets suppressed, while the AFL Grand Final takes up to nearly a fifth of the MSM newspaper.

How many pages are going to be devoted to a horse race in two weeks time (Melbourne Cup), as though it is the most pressing issue in the country?

It's hardly surprising that the real news is bundled, wrapped and suppressed.
