I've been there. And I'm not going to judge anyone for their decisions around such a personal matter. I did not judge my brother who decided to work the rest of the week and was too late for my mother's death. I did not judge my sister, who lived NEXT DOOR to my mother - for not coming over the night of her death to see her before she went.
If there's one thing I learned in experiencing my mother's death, it's not to be judgmental of people around it. Because each person handles it differently and some people can handle being right there beside the bed and some can't.
I simply refuse to make a judgment about someone else going through what turned out the be the most difficult thing in my life.
I see that's not a problem for some...
