Think about it... people are more concerned with a symbol than with the issues that a candidate supports/ does not.

And going even deeper... having parties, specifically TWO parties (that actually matter) increases the control that the government has on us. We are force fed presidents on both sides, which are starting to look more like each other every day (powell endorsing obama, just to be topical). And no third party has ANY chance whatsoever to even have a percent of the electoral votes.

Which is another reason that parties should be abolished (like Washington warned) the electoral college makes party control even greater because some states are already stamped red or blue no matter what. Why cant people just run for president no matter what? (following the current laws) The electoral college was set up in a time when the average voter wasn't (and quite possibly couldn't) be properly informed on the canidates. We live in a completely different era where any joe shmoe can broadcast to the world from his parents basment. Voters can be informed, and would be forced to, if the choices werent dumbed down to "the lesser of two evils", why not the lesser of 5 or 6?

The party system seems to be another NWO scheme, "hey, the two partys are basically the same, put 'em together!". That was a bit off topic, but it makes a good arguement...

I see what you're saying, maybe the government wouldn't want to do this as it might put someone into power that actually cares about the ideals of the people and heaven forbid, the world might actually and genuinely become a better place.

the united states of america could have been extremely powerful as one united nation, but its things like this which dichotomize the population....In my opinion, our party system is something akin to a divide and conquer tactic set in place long before any of us were a twinkle in our parents eye's

The two part election system is just a formality, and serves the purpose of providing the illusion, that we are choosing the candidates that will represent the majority of the voters, after being elected. ... The issues that will effect we the people are irrelevant, but we are led to believe otherwise, by manipulation and blatant lies. .... Only the most extreme zealotry is viable to the republican party,as anything less than is considered socialistic and non Christian, unless the socialism is in the form of money for corporate interest, and tax breaks for the idle rich that, own 50% of the country's wealth and control all but 5% of what they don't ..... The sick and the poor people that benefit from social programs are scapegoats for the rich. They are always the ones that are targeted for blame when it is time to pay taxes. Prosperous business owners, and corporate CEOs, are able to take advantage of loopholes and tax shelters avoid paying as much as families earning a small fraction as much as they..... Democrats really aren't all that liberal in their political philosophy but have been made out to be so due to the far to the right Neo Con faction that are so vocal at this point in time in the Republican party.
