I just walked outside to have a smoke. I gazed up as usual. As I scanned around the moon I noticed two objects that seemed to be brighter and closer than any others in the sky. They seem to be twinkling more so than what I would call usual. They're on each side of the moon. I'm not sure if it's stars, sats. Just wondering if anyone else has seen this.

Note: Located in Southern Louisiana (if that helps)

I went out and took another look. Common sense tells me write it off as stars. They're not moving. But they seem to flicker, from red to greenish more than I would expect. Sats. I thought. But wouldn't they move? I'm not well versed on astronomy. Star locations or anything like that. Just curious.

I punched in New Orleans on YourSky and found a few bright stars on either side of the moon.

Capella, the 11th brightest star in the sky, is on one side. On the other, you have the choice of Betelgeuse or Rigel.

From your description I would say these are the most likely suspects.

That could very well be it. I'm a little weary eyed at the moment so probably so. Just thought they were odd. Thanks for the info. And sorry for the lack of self diagnosis. Lol

I have had the same experience but in Australia the other night.

The so called star was not in a usual place and stayed static for hours, it was very bright and was flashing red, blue, green, orange and white.

The position of this object was over or in the area of Nowra on the south east coast.

Nowra has a large Naval base?

Im in South East Texas next to Lake Charles, I see a few stars that relate to your description. Nothing really out of the ordinary.
