Anyone placing bets on 6400 today?

They should stop putting him on TV for awhile, I have said it before.

Bragging that government jobs are proof that he is creating jobs is nuts.

I think we will either come close to even (I think last night I called +/- 50) or it will break 6400.

Government knows only one thing to do under these circumstances:
Create & spend money. Giving it away is proving to be a nightmare, so what else can they do? They already started 2 wars trying to keep things afloat, and that only bought us a few years.

Option 1: Give away money & make responsible businesses/taxpayers angry = civil unrest.
Option 2: Start another war and make taxpayers and other countries mad = civil unrest and fuel recruitment in terror cells/organizations abroad.
Option 3: Create government jobs and scare most of the country into thinking they are being (oogie boogie) socialized.

Yup, we are on option 3. I think option 4 is to create a major disaster or something. Thin the population and create 'disaster relief' jobs.

Option 4 can not be ruled out by any means. Create jobs, clean up, rebuilding, victims can not be tallied as jobs lost.

S&P 676? You have to wonder what they are thinking. Would love to be a fly on the wall when they get together behind closed doors to talk about this.

I've repeatedly stated that I think Obama was the candidate most likely to succeed. I've defended his advisers, and criticized McCain's. I've been critical of Paul's more protectionist stance on immigration and trade. I think that the much of the scientific funding ("earmarks") in the federal budget is a good thing, provided the economy turns around, because scientific advancement is essential to a growing economy (for this reason, I'm also critical of black-budget military programs). I've spent years slamming Fox News. I've argued against the asinine and un-winnable "war on drugs" and the absurdity of our incarceration rate (5% of the world population, 25% of the inmates) -- these points, along with the underlying economic absurdity of this situation, should highlight why 25 new cops doesn't impress me.

I voted for Obama. My beef is with the congressional Democrats, Bush Jr., Clinton, Reagan, the bankers, and the Treasury Secretary (who Obama appointed). And the fact that he says one thing and means another, but that's true of 95% of politicians.

A republican, I am not.

Yesterday, I believe, in the morning when I listen to a Victoria music station, as the Chilliwack one isn't bearable to me, a news announcement was that BC's official prediction for the slowdown was only expected to be at .1% down, and Alberta was expected to gain over this upcoming year.

The other day, the same radio station carried news that our Canadian officials were expecting an overall recession, but not worse than in the 90s.

By the summer or beginning of next year we will be in default. I'm betting on mid-to late 09. And so far everything is right on track for it.

Why is this thread, like so many others, turning into an Obama bashing? Isn't this thread to discuss the "up to the minute market data?" What's with the hate and angst towards our President?

Oh yes, he wasn't able to one a dime, make the economy turn a 180. He wasn't able to take 10+ years of bad money management, and turn it around in 3 weeks.

It's like he took control of a plane that has lost both engines, one wing, is on fire, and has a gaping hole in the side, and heading straight towards the ground, and has to turn it around and bring it to safety instantly. He KNEW he couldn't do it. No one could. Not McCain, not Obama, NO ONE. It's a mess, and it's going to be a long, slow climb out of this hole, if we can get there.

So if nothing else, please keep this thread about its intended topic, instead of veering off into yet more President bashing, it gets very tiresome to see every thread degenerate into this.

I voted for him so let that be known. But remember "He Applied for the Job" knowing full well where things stood. He has not taken appropriate action. These bailouts "his idea" are terrible and causing a lot of this mess. Appointing IRS cheats, several to cabinet positions. Dude, come on.

Because Obama is no different than Bush. Neither of them have an understanding of the problem. Both of them are making the same damned mistakes. So this is either a 2 for 2 exercise in stupidity or it's an agenda. Either way Obama sucks. Further more it is HIS policies that are affecting minute by minute market decisions. So discussing him and his idiotic ideas ARE on topic.

Hi. For the sake of balance: would you (or anyone else) like to point out specific measures he has taken that would inspire confidence?

(This is not a loaded question.)

I got one. He said today that it is obvious that his stimulus package is working because today 25 cadets who are graduating will get police jobs. Also about the funding for more surveillance police and more overtime for police. Thank god the stimulus plan is working. Well done sir.
