Will the closing of so many car dealerships create a hardship for you?
Yes 10% 12016
No 90% 107102

I hope the 10% yes are not employed by dealerships. I always thought a city needed one auto dealership .. seriously, the dealership on every other street corner was a little over done. GM is slashing 1,100 dealerships .. trumping Chrysler cuts.

I was looking around news articles, Kansas City sites that GM claims roughly 48 people work at a single dealer on average..

Adding Chryslers 789 dealers, GM's 1,100 dealers, that gives us roughly 90,672 being layed off

Take a look at these numbers though:

i2.cdn.turner.com...

The people who run "American" Auto companies are quite simply.... retarded.

Market wise it was a perfectly normal sane day. Day's where +- 100+ points are not signs of a healthy market.. this weeks relatively normalness is refreshing. Normal anyways, as far as this economy is concerned.

On Economic news however, it was another ugly day. Chart's and Stocks don't represent the Real Economy in this recession. Be it huge losses, or huge gains.

Volume was light today some investors sold the morning rally but there was no mass exit. GBM , the Dow hit 8230 intraday are you now short or long? I am seeing a few more analysts switch their position in the media reports and saying we have changed market trend from up to down.

I better add a conspiracy angle to this so it is not off topic. Its interesting the big short selling funds were almost completely absent from the recent market rally? Seems logical that if they really wanted to take the market down fast they would have been in hammering the market today? Perhaps a nice orderly decline is better for business as it attracts more sellers than a big one day decline?

Its based on where it closes, as you can see on the chart, intraday it has crossed below, than ALWAYS closed above (with the exception of 1 day i think it was like 1.5 pts under...)

Glad you're back. I was wondering where you went off to. Hx is around, but I think he's been spending some time in the Pandemic forum, trying to wrap his head around the current swine flu situation. With all that goes on in the world, it seems like there just aren't enough hours in the day...whenever I start to judge Bush/Obama/Whoever, I think about how hard it is to just keep up with ATS! I can't imagine having to keep up with the world happenings, as a world leader.

Looks like over 82,900 for 2 days.
Of course this is other parts of the world -
but by no means covers all the actual layoffs.
Clearly things are very very bad indeed.

I can't wrap my mind around how the hell how the hell they can do that... in my mind, teachers are the LAST ones you fire... I was shocked last month when they announced 20+ schools closed in Detroit because they had no more money... what happens to those kids?

Cutting teachers, even if they are not top notch, will only worsen things down the road... the effects will be felt in a few years... america is already going down in education levels... this is so sick...

On one hand, they take kids from parents when they homeschool using color of law, then on the other hand, because they are stealing our money, they shut down schools... this is so sick it's not even funny anymore...

And 82.000 jobs cut in 2 days... I think we have a new record.

It's my God Like Wisdom
lol

82k jobs lost in two days (approx of course), plus the thousands being laid off from the Automakers.....

My outlook for the summer is starting to wane, I am starting to get a little nervous as to how long this recession will last. Already we are in the longest Declared recession .. only the Great Depression trumps us now..

Will we make it a full 24 months of recession???

Friday market fun

The Joker said . . .

Insurers looked as if they would provide a boon to the financial sector after the Treasury decided to make $22 billion in TARP funds available to a number of life insurance companies. However, the group is down 2% amid concerns that the funds may not help improve the ratings of some insurers.

A "boon to the financial sector". Isn't it so that TARP was set up for losers?

GM in Bankruptcy May Speed Dealer Cuts to Match Chrysler’s Pace(Bloomberg)

It's about time. We should have dealt with this MONTHS ago. But no, we just had to dole out taxpayer money so it could sink into a black hole.

I guess you could say I feel bad for about 2 seconds, then I got over it

But really, I would like to know the whole story before I feel bad (as in what kind of teachers, specific school districts, reasonings, perhaps there is a story behind it..)

On a side note, I dont feel bad for all those car dealerships.. who needs a JEEP/PLYMOUTH/DODGE Dealership in every main street in every city.. pretty ridiculous to begin with
