Iceland has food for 5 weeks

www.financialpost.com

After a four-year spending spree, Icelanders are flooding the supermarkets one last time, stocking up on food as the collapse of the banking system threatens to cut the island off from imports.

So realistically, who is gonna help them?

This should not be happening... surely?

I think it's terrible and I sincerely hope that we lend a hand if the 'poo hits the fan' as it were.

Fingers crossed we don't see this happening elsewhere eh?

This is happining and don't call me Shirley

Well, thats what you get for living on a tiney island colonised by vikings I guess.

I doubt that the US and other countries would let them starve tho, it's not like they are an enemy state or anything.

This is what the rest of us could potentially be going through in the coming months.

Scary stuff....

I hope some form of aid starts to arrive in Iceland..

Iceland — Population: 301,931 (July 2007 Est.)
According to
www.cia.gov...

Of course its terrible. What has happened.
But more people starve to death in Africa every year than there is people in Iceland.
Iceland doesn't have all that many people its small.

I think Iceland is probably a lot more prepared than many places.

They have remained stable and peaceful for a long time and have built up quite an infrastructure.

My favorite game EVE online is hosted in Iceland. If it shows down for whatever reason I'll be the first to ship them food to get it back up and running.

There are only 300k people in Iceland, and quite a few fishermen. Surely they could rustle up a few fish to feed each other.

Worst comes to worst, they will become self-reliant like their Viking forefathers.

They're already almost 95% energy independent by using renewables like geothermal and wind. If they were to get food independence as well then they are in a good place to weather any global storm.

Interesting that you mention that. There was an ATS member here recently who claimed to represent the Canadian Shard of the Icelandic Shard of The Illuminati. He announced his departure about 48 hours before the Iceland crisis and has not returned since. I don't think that's a coincidence.

Expect a u2u about EVE Online momentarily.
