This is going to sound really impossible but I thought it might be better than the current system we have.

Replace the election system with this system:

Every member of any party in the government is able to run for President... out of all the members of either party running... the ones with the highest vote is the President and the second highest vote is Vice President (this is for primaries). For the general election... you'd just vote Republican or Democrat... and then both the President and the VP of each party would work together after the election. The President and the VP of the losing party would be the minority leaders.

What do you think? Could it work?

It used to be that the person who came in second was the vice president. That was changed to allow the President to select their running mate.

I do think it is time to elect the president by popular vote, but the small state legislators will probably not approve an amendment to change the system.
