Hello. As a relatively new person here, I have only contributed 5 threads, but am trying to set some goals for myself. Yesterday I posted four threads that were of differing subject matter that were quickly gone from the active threads page. I am wondering how to bump them back into existence without me continuing to post on my own thread - if possible; also, could it be the time of day I posted? Should I delay my response time in answering to get it back onthe active topics page? Any insider tips? Thanks and just trying to get better.

Personally I thought this thread was going to be some pornographic description of self satisfaction!
Damn. Such disappointment.

hehe

As for bumping your threads, well, sometimes it simply does take your own replies to try and get it out there. You see, this is a pretty big site and there are pretty much a ton of people on at all times. If the subject matter (and usually title) are good enough or interesting, you will get replies.

There are those that have become thread masters and I would suggest looking at their threads. Dimensional Detective is one of the best that I have come across. Although I don't always agree with him I believe that he knows how to get your attention.

Good luck.

Trust me, if it's "junk", it ain't gonna get much play. Believe me, I know.

One man's somethin' or other is another man's whatever.

I haven't tried this myself, mind you, but I'm TOLD that you u2u your friends (or pop into ATS chat if you've got access) and ask them to flag, star, and reply to your neglected threads.

Quid quo pro deals via u2u work too. I. E., "I'll bump your threads if you bump mine."

As a last resort, you start a whiny thread about being ignored, causing every one who reads it to feel sorry for you, go look for your neglected threads, and bump them.

Please no "bumping" for the sake of "bumping".

Be sure you're adding good content to the thread.

Thanks,

Thanks everyone for the responses. I know that if it's just not a good read, well, too bad. And I purposefully put bumping and junk together in the title to see if it would get more hits. Thanks again and I'll heed the advice.

Gee whiz, Elev, I was joking!

(Insert sad puppydog hurt look here)

Is there REALLY no room for humor on ATS??

And besides, you should know me better than that by now. I can take a full paragraph (and sometimes two) to say pretty much nothing.

Here are few rules about BUMPING YOUR JUNK: ( I should know - I am a pro at JUNK BUMPIN )

1. Never BUMP YOUR JUNK at a Taco Bell at 2 in the morning - the cops were not amused.

2. Never BUMP YOUR JUNK in church on Sundays - I spent 2 weeks tied to a bed at a seminary once.

3. Make sure you know WHO or WHAT you are BUMPIMG YOUR JUNK with - those "women" in New York City sure can fool a country boy like me.

Oh.....not THAT junk - guess I should read a thread before posting....nevermind!

And that whole New York City thing....NEVER HAPPENED....

Easy... I know how you meant it, but I also know that others would see it as how to do things, that was directed at those members and not you

Another thing to consider is that psychologically, things that piss people off (or excite other of their emotions) gain more of a response than things that merely inform them or ask them to think about something.

Hence the relative popularity of action movies vs documentaries. Not all threads that get ignored or fall by the wayside are really "junk." Some of them are really good quality, but are about things that the majority just arent excited about.

Yeah, if you go with a factual statement, or a no frills description then you're going to get squat. On the other hand.. go with 'WE'RE ALL GOING TO DIE ON X' or 'ALIENS ARE COMING ON X' then you're pretty much guaranteed hundreds of responses. Pretty sad state of affairs.

Oh DRATS and I thought he was serious about that 'how too' that he never does

Its also HIGHLY likely that the threads are getting no attention to to the current 'Blossoming' SPAM ATTACK

Just a thought
