Senator McCain went on the offensive quickly, criticising Senator Obama's proposal to raise taxes on Americans who make more than $US250,000 ($378,000) a year and saying it would hurt small business owners like Joe, whom Senator Obama met on the campaign trail.

I think Obama will win it right there!

Mccains argument doesnt make sense. If your earning $250,000.00 a year, your not hard off. Your living in a nice house, driving a nice car with a decent savings account.

You can handle a tax increase of a minute amount, it just means instead of buying that M3Benz you might have to get a little less of a car.

Yet, if your earning $80,000.00 per year, a tax break would help significantly.

2 Things have given me hope today,

1. Is Obama finally saying something thats needed to be done this past decade.
Tax the people who can afford it, and help the people who are struggling.

Its so basic, im surprised no one else did it sooner.

2. Kevin Rudd came out and said that the current financial crisis is soley the cause of greed in corporate markets / capitalism.

black and white truth!

Mccain didnt deliver the knock out blow he promised, this will make him look weak and unable to deliver in the times when he needs to most.

Only thing stopping Obama from taking the house of white, is a bullet, a rigged election, or a catastrophy.

Sadly, I believe one of them will occur!

Originally posted by jam321cause it is hard when you get someone pregnant and a woman tells you that she is pregnant but is getting an abortion. Nothing a man can do about it. It is a heartbreaking situation if you love kids.

Perhaps, if a man is going to "do the baby thing" with a lady who doesn't want to get pregnant, he could slip a condom on?

No man knows what it's like to grow a baby in their belly.
No man knows the social stigma involved for a single girl, let alone the health costs and financial costs.
No man knows what's involved in bearing a baby and giving it up for abortion.

Therefore no man should have the right to dictate a woman's actions if she becomes pregnant.

Use prevention. Remember that flies spread pregnancy, so zip them up.

I DVR'd the debate, so I could go back over what I wanted to...

Obama is a great speaker...hands down.

Unfortunately, he has very socialized ideas of how to run our country.

When it comes down to it, dull, old, boring, SAFE McCain will at least act like a capitalist if elected, and his ideas were clearly stated, if overly brief for a decent discussion.

The two men could not be more unlike one another, and they represent two very different America's.

Frankly, since the Dem's let Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac and friends ruin our economy, and knowing Pelosi and Frank-the-mouth aren't up for re-election, I'd rather have McCain in the White House.

you know if anything happens to barrack obama ... i think the rest of the world will finally lose all faith in the usa and you guys with your crap economy, your substantial education system and your pretty much non existent health care ... will fall.

god knows what the repercussions of that will be.

edited to add: but australia will still be with you.

Safe McCain? He supported the bail out bill and supports the government buying up peoples’ bad loans. The government bailing out businesses and people that made bad investments (with the help of predatory lenders) and having every American pay for it with their taxes doesn’t sound like a safe capitalist position to me. It sounds like someone who coped out of their conservative ideas because they didn’t want to be blamed for the crisis if it got worse. Like I’ve said many times before people only like and support true capitalism when it works for them. America is already socialized; with out a bit of socialism our capitalist economy wouldn’t function.

I thought it was the best debate by far between the two of them, and McCain won by a slim margin.

As they have other times, CNN had a selected group of people from Columbus Ohio to watch the debate and then say who they were voting for. There were 10 "for sure votes" for McCain and 15 "for sure votes" for Obama. Now, I'm from Ohio, I'm a registered democrat, and I'm going to tell you, what CNN isn't telling you.

We are a swing state. CNN conducted their poll, from Columbus, which is in Franklin County and it is also our Capital. Wheather it's a primary or an actual election - that county most always goes blue, as does Cuyahoga County, which houses Cleveland.

I'm in Fairfield County, which is saddled right up next to Franklin County and the last time my county went blue was for Bill Clinton. When Hillary won Ohio in the primary, she did so by numbers that were made up, of all the surrounding counties - excluding the larger cities, which all went for Obama.

And that is how Obama will more than likely (99% sure) lose the State of Ohio. I don't care what the polls on tv are saying - I know what the signs are saying, in peoples yards, on the backroads of the State and that is McCain/Palin.

It's city v's laid back country folk and it never changes.

Most interesting quote for the night?
In defence of not having an exception to the late term abortion ban for when it is necessary to save the mother's life:

"That's the extreme abortion position, quote, health."

Doesn't seem quite right that a wannabe president should think consideration of the mother's right to life is an extreme position.

The reason behind that is the fact that during the Late Term of Pregnancy, Child-birth can be brought about Prematurely through Contraction inducing drugs. If there is a Health problem, and it is during the Late Term, there is still a chance to have the baby birthed alive. That is why Late Term abortions in such scenarios are not necessary, and I am saying that from a Medical perspective, not a Political one.

As you said, "there is still a chance to have the baby birthed alive. "
A chance, not a certainty.

Do you realise that not all Caesareans are a choice? Sometimes a woman cannot give birth naturally. A Caesarean is a major operation, and some conditions make such an operation very risky. Now would you want your wife, if she was haemophiliac, to go through a Caesarean if it was known the baby could not survive anyway?

A late term abortion is a horrible and tragic thing for a woman to go through. After 6 months you expect these days that a fetus has some chance of surviving outside the womb, so I'm strongly against casual late-term abortions. However I have a friend whose life was saved by one.

"Emm" was pregnant with twins. She was diabetic and developed severe toxemia. It was found that one twin had died, and the other had no skull, therefore could only live a few days after birth anyway. I was there holding her hand as the doctors did what was necessary to save her life. The details are gross, but the end result was a healthy woman and doctors not being made into criminals for saving her.

This sort of procedure is not often needed, but banning it because the need is rare is a stupid way of pandering to anti-abortionists. No doctor is going to want to do this unnecessarily, and the ones needing to save a patient's life this way go through enough without a criminal charge hanging over their heads as well.

Here is an account of some other women who have had their lives saved by this procedure.

As a progressive centrist voter, heres my opinion on the race.

This was by far McCain best debate, however all of that magic he brought through lasted a mere 30 minutes before he for some reason lost it. It was as he just could not keep a hold of himself long enough. If he had continued like he did in the first 30 minutes through the entire debate, he would would have won the debate and ended Obamas momentum, yet he didnt do so, he slipped right after the first 30 minutes.

Obamas performance was great although I believe he was sloppy through the first half hour and he allowed McCain to take some shots. That being said Obama came back into the rest of the debate and I tell ya, the way in which he gave clear answers to the question, the way he addressed directly to the american people, the way in which he kept himself cool and calm through the entire debate gave him the edge.

McCain came in swinging at the beginning, but he slipped after 30 minutes into the debate. Was this anger from McCain? Maybe he just didnt have anything much to add after those first few questions, but he slipped.

This debate in my opinion is a TIE. Most people would say Obama won, and I agree that he scored the most points towards the end and gave mccain more than mccain gave in the first half hour, that being said McCain held up. Obama didnt necessarily knock out mccain to assure him his current support, and mccain didnt knock out Obama to regain some equal ground.

This debate didnt close anything, there are still questions about both candidates from independents and neither managed to gain any further ground. Obama may be ahead but this debate did not solidify his lead, the road to the whitehouse is still shaky... and with a little over 20 days to go, this race may still shift.

Im an Obama supporter, I hope he wins, but I think the above is as accurate as one can get.

I tell ya nobody could have said it better... this is exactly the same thing I see.....

I don't really know what Obama said, but I know it involved "four years of failed policies" and "eight years of failed policies" with nearly every response he had.

Perhaps you would have had better luck if you had watched the debate live instead of playing hand-picked Youtube clips

Presidents cannot by themselves effect constitutional ammendments...it requires ratification by 3/4 of existing states. Furthermore the second amendment is not the reason you can or cannot carry or posses firearms. This is controlled by state law.

So if you are worried about ANY of constitutional rights...do not look to the president to do anything...at best he has influence!

It really really really bothered me when McCain nonchalantly scoffed and undermined the pro-life/pro-choice health.... er "health" issues for women. Their health is a serious and legitimate consideration when debating the pro-life/pro-choice arguments!! He brushed it off by surrounding verbal quotation marks around the word "health" and followed it with an evil Bush cackle. Not cool. Rubbed me all kinds of wrong.

I thought McCain won this debate. But by a very slim margin. I thought it was a home run for him until Bill Ayers was brought up. McCain couldnt say a word to Obama mentioning Palins rallies where people said kill him. He then DEFENDED THEM.

the other part I didnt like was when McCain ridiculed safety of the mother of abortions.

mccain won on points. Obama won as usual on style. This being the 3rd debate, m Obama walks away 2-1. The temperament of McCain really came out tonight, and I dont think it will resonate well.

It's good to see that men on this forum can understand the need for individual choice on this issue.

To quote McCain from the debate:
"Just again, the example of the eloquence of Senator Obama. He's health for the mother. You know, that's been stretched by the pro-abortion movement in America to mean almost anything. That's the extreme pro-abortion position, quote, "health." But, look, Cindy and I are adoptive parents. We know what a treasure and joy it is to have an adopted child in our lives. We'll do everything we can to improve adoption in this country."

That sounds chillingly as though he wants to use unintentionally pregnant women as baby factories, supplying children to middle aged women who put their careers first for too long.

Of course it should never be fully stricken as an absolute LAST resort. However, every single option should be tried beforehand, but I do admit that is simply my opinion. I know plenty about C-Sections as well, as I know quite a few women who have had to go through them for any number of reasons, including Breech Birth.

Losing any child is absolutely devastating, as I personally know a lady who went through a Miscarriage once, and I pray no one EVER has to go through such a thing, or make such a decision about a Health induced Abortion. I do feel that such Abortions should be only attempted after every last option is taken into HEAVY Consideration.

BTW, just for the record, I am open minded towards Abortions when they are allowed within the First Trimester. However, I personally believe they should NOT be allowed after that time-period, unless there is NO other option left in terms of a Medical Emergency.

Again, that is my opinion and I understand everyone differs in theirs. It is an extremely sensitive subject, and rightfully so.
