Man Tries To Identify Mystery Object Found In Woods
Object Found Near Spot Where Man Saw Other Strange Item

POSTED: 5:32 pm EDT October 9, 2008

WAKEFIELD, N.H. -- A Wakefield man has a mystery in his living room, an object that looks kind of a like a rock but not quite, which might have fallen from the sky.

William McCarthy found the mysterious object that's about the size of a football and weighs about the same. But he said he can't figure out what it is or from where it came.

"And after I started looking at it, I noticed all of the strange things that were in that lump," McCarthy said.

Some of the unusual features are a detailed leaf imprint on one side, and on the other side is a slash of what looks like red paint, but it won't scratch off, even with a knife.

"I have a hard time believing that occurs naturally, especially since it's so nice and smooth and shiny," McCarthy said.

He said he found the object lying on the forest floor not far from his house -- and not far from where another strange thing happened three decades ago.

"You've heard of hair-raising experiences? Well, they actually happen," McCarthy said. "Because the hair went right up on the back of my head."

In 1977, McCarthy found a giant square object melting into the thick ice of his frozen pond. He said the only place from which it could have come is the sky.

"We go back to the object in the pond, and guess what? It wasn't there," McCarthy said. "But there was this square hole the same size as the object had been."

He said the object was so hot that it melted through 12 inches of ice. He never retrieved it and still wonders what it was.

Now, 31 years later, he's wondering the same thing about the new object. McCarthy said he took the object to the fire department Thursday morning to make sure it wasn't radioactive. Firefighters tested it and gave it the all-clear.

What do you think the object is? Let us know in the comments section below!

video worked for me, probably space junk that made it all the way down and melted on the way. don't know about the red stripe though.

K think of this..

If you burn a color newspaper & don't touch it & just let the page burn up, the ash retaind the images, the print & even the colors.

Something returning to Earth will burn up & if it has colored parts, the colors become sortof Photo etched into the object.

Thats my take on it anyway.

I wonder if they did a magnet check on it or something. It would be interesting to find that thing that fell into the lake as well. Geeze, I'd have been in there with a snorkel and rope looking for that thing if I saw it fall in there!

Its just more unreliable stuff, sadly.

Im not sure what goes on in the minds of these people. Its like people just find any random odd looking thing and cry "I found ETs jockstrap"

For goodness sake, if I went walking and something plopped from the sky and I found a bizarre looking thing like that Id say "well that was kind of cool, wonder what it is."

Then rather than making a video and trying to get milage from it Id just go find a lab, tell them it plopped from the sky and ask how much it would cost to have some tests done if I gave them samples.TA DA 24 hours later I have a nice little scientific material analysis to base my conclusions on.

Everything thats wrong with UFO research comes from this kind of thing, grab a chunk of whatever and assume its probably alien, make the video, sell the tshirt and then vanish again like a ghost.

That's a strange object, I agree it looks like a chunk of lava rock. What makes it weird is that it imprinted the leaf without retaining any pieces of it. Other than that, nothing about it seems unusual.

The obligatory conspiracy theory: its a piece of a USAF spacecraft built on alien technology that broke apart on reentry and pieces of it landed in his forest in hot pliable form hot enough to take the impression of a leaf but cold enough not to burn it, while the red part that he cant scratch off was just part of a sign reading "Fuel Door" in which one would insert spheres of enriched uranium to fuel its nuclear reactor. The spacecraft, which could shape shift, as the man described, weighed as much as a football was, if it was 75 feet wide and 18 feet tall and utilized electromagnetism for propulsion.

Did I miss anything?

It could be anything, that fellas just picked it up and gone damn this dosn't look like it's from this world to me.
I don't see why eevryones going off his opinion and think it's shot through the atmosphere and all that, it's probably and more likely just something that was made mostly of plastic and has been put on a fire, think about it plastic isn't bio-degradeable, that thing could've been round for years and ended up in them woods...
