The day is upon us. Polls have opened in Newfoundland and on the East Coast. I'll be using this thread later to keep track of what's being said around the country and to start tracking ridings after the polls close out West.

If any Canadians have some insight in how things are going in their ridings or now of any upsets in the making, say it here. Keep us up to date on what the turn out is like in your area or links to any good information from your area.

It's been an interesting 5 weeks. Lets see who wins. Will it be a Conservative Majority? Minority? Have the Liberals done enough to steal this election? Will the Greens get a seat? Will Liz May upset Peter MacKay? Will the Conservatives make inroads in Quebec and Ontario? Will the West show any Red? Could Jack Layton be the next Official Opposition?

All change on the North American Continent? Which of these guys would work best with Obama, and which would work best with McCain?

Will be interesting to see how it pans out.

Harper wins a majority . . . Layton takes second, but quits his position shortly thereafter to follow his true calling . . . selling used cars . . . and Stephan Dion changes his name to Stevie Dione and claims to be the love child of Celine Dione and launches a career in Las Vegas as a comic, except nobody can understand a lick of what he's saying.

Canadians will continue on being nice to everyone and will send all their food, lumber and sand-free oil down here to prop us up when our economy finishes going through it's death spasms . . . all will be good.

I think that it's a tight fight between NDP and the Conservatives. There just isn't enough women to get charmed by Dione's accent. There green party has my vote so hopefully they get a seat. I would also like to vote for the Canadian Action Party, but that would be a waste of a vote since they won't have much seats.

Unfortunately, we don't have CAP candidate running in my riding either. Otherwise they would get my vote. If there is a candidate running in your riding, think about this. The more votes they garner, the better the chances of them getting Federal funding for the party. They are running on razor thin budgets as it is so any vote helps.

Also, the more votes they recieve, the more light the subjects that they are talking about get in Canada.

I'm not telling you how to vote mind you. You need to do what you think is right but it's something to think about.

Nef, I think whomever wins will work well with the next POTUS. They don't really have a choice. The NDP leader Layton would be the best to work with Obama, imo and either Harper or Dion would be best suited to McCain. Dion moreso though as Harper is a more strict conservative than McCain.

Me and my Family are voting for the Canadian Action Party.

They are the Only party against the North American Union and are strict constitutionalists.

They want to get rid of NAFTA an start placing tariff on imported good again.

They also believe the War on Terror is bogus and that it has caused more terrorism and created more terrorists than it has stopped.

We don't just have to pick from "The Big Three plus Green"

Canadian Action Party is getting my vote.

Just heard on the radio that Dion may be stopping in Regina?! Ralph Goodale's long standinf Liberal seat is in the hot seat.

It seems like it may be a Conservative sweep here in Saskatchewan.

Hey All! Hope you all had a good Thanksgiving.

I noticed many of you are voting CAP and that is great, they ARE truly the only party that "gets" it. I used to be a die-hard NDP'er (I'm a 23 University student and was "told" by society and the NDP themselves that the NDP was my only option) but am starting to understand that ALL the major parties are overlooking the real problems of the NAU & Americanization and the piece by piece selling of the country to the highest bidder. I think Miss May has been impressive but would like to see a more comprehensive platform from the Greens, and the car salesman comment of Layton is exactly correct, he has abandoned the socialist appeals of the CCF and the Winnipeg Manifesto and is little more then an opportunist.

I just wanted to post this mesage, because I have learned that it is the most important thing to me: Never except our country the way it is, never become content or passive in our country's direction, whether you vote conservative, liberal, NDP, Green, CAP...get in the party! change it from the inside! only 64% of Canadians voted last election and Stephen Harper only got 30% of the votes but is Prime Minister...we NEED proportional representation, the peoples voice needs to be reflected in the House, not petty regionalism.
*And once more, critique your country if you love it! Never say we are better because of what we have and others do not! If you love this land, the best thing you can do is be critical of it! (I'm sure this is just preaching to some as you are already on ATS) so stay strong, and we CAN change this country, we just need the will.

It doesn't matter who I vote for in my city. We use old, fraudulent Global Election Systems (Diebold) voting machines. Your ballot goes in the machine and that's it. There is no oversight for counting votes and there is no evidence of who you voted for. Maybe that's why we've had the same crappy mayor for like 15 years?

Anyways, I see the party choices like this:
1)Liberal - Want to bring in new carbon taxes
2)NDP - Want to bring in huge sales tax (it's already 15% here in Ontario)
3)Green - Want to bring in new carbon taxes
4)Conservative - No new taxes, but a continued agenda to dissolve our borders.

All of the choices suck.

Agreed, but anything other than a Liberal vote is a vote for Harper...and a reform-a-tory majority is the worst possible option. We had Mike Harris and his wrecking crew in Ontario, so we know what that would bring. God help us all, eh? We wouldn't recognise the country by the next election.

This election will do nothing to change the face of politics in Canada. Harper will win another minority, and it will be status quo till the next election, which will probably come in a year to 18 months, after the Liberals toss out Dion and elect a new leader that can reach out to more people (How about Trudeau's son?).

This was just a waste of time and money.

This is a very difficult choice.

I am still undecided.

I watched the debate and I have to say Liz May was probably the winner there. Even though it was hardly a debate, more like finger pointing contest. Funny how they make her out to be a crazy person. I'm still not voting for her.

Jack Layton is definitly a used car salesman at heart.

Dion is just a bumbling idiot. I can not make out a single word that comes out of the alien head of his. He scares me more than Harper does.

And then we have the Ken doll, Harper. He seems to be genuine and knowledgable when speaking but he's been too "buddy-buddy" with Dubya and I just can't get past that hair cut.

I might just have to lean towards PC's on this. Hoping they won't snag a majority government and keep things how they have been for the last little while. No dramatic changes, right now, is probably a good thing.

I think a majority would be scary, I think Dion at the helm is even scarier.

Also, for the vote today... I can't vote in good conscience for either of the 4 big parties and the greens. So if there's no other good parties, I won't vote.

No Bloc, no NPD, no Conservatives, no Liberals, no Greens. They are all bad.

Bloc: against firearms, for carbon credits.
NPD: against firearms, tax increase, big government, probably for carbon credits.
Conservatives: for North American Union, for the war on terror, corrupt, against liberties, bilderberg puppets, ect...
Liberals: against firearms, for big government, corrupt, for north american union, bilderberg puppets, carbon credit BS.
Greens: Carbon credits BS.

Seriously the only parties I would vote for would be the libertarian party and the Canadian Action Party. Other than that I will vote for nobody, I won't fall for the BS let's vote for the lesser of two evils.

Well, as long as you vote...because if you don't vote, you can't squawk.
But...as I said, the worst of all evils here is that theo-con Harper, and I'm convinced that anything that takes directly away from a Conservative majorityis a good thing.
