ATS MIX:

AP Show 35

The 3rd Presidential debate is discussed by Martin and Homer, and we get a view of the debate from ATS member Don White. Homer and Martin have "Words" about the financial bailout on both sides of the pond. Nef gives us a UK round up. The show's featured interview is with Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate for Bristol North West, Paul Harrod. And we wrap the show with a Homer Fife rant.

I liked the rant Homer, well balanced and with some passion. Can we expect more?

And what about Martin? Are we going to hear a rant from the Brit half of the AP show?

I think I will leave the rants to Homer

Hey guys... I just wanted to respond to Homer's view presented in the end rant of this podcast.

I like Obama for many of his policies. His policies aren't socialism. I think people need to be taxed more and I think we should reduce the deficit. I also think that more programs should be supported that get people jobs and I like Obama's plan for national healthcare and I like his stance on education.

There are several other reasons why I support him too. I think that the main fault of the crash of the economy were the fat cat beaurocrats that bought out congress. I think that they are the sole cause of this crash and now that the people that caused the crash are gone or hurt so they won't be able to do as much damage.

There are several reasons why I disagree with John McCain's stance on the war. First, Iraq isn't the central front of the War on Terror, Afhganistan and Packistan are. Second, Obama recognizes this, John McCain would support surges which would basically put more people in harms ways... and I think we should be getting out of Iraq. The war in Iraq is not a war we can win by just fighting. You have to understand the region of Iraq to understand what's happening there and why people are being violent.

Overall, I think Obama is more educated than John McCain and he is more knowledgeable on the issues. I can't believe that John McCain supports the banning of abortion rights and gay marriage for the people that want to. Those rights aren't necessarily harmful to anyone else. And, if you're a women, you would probably know what it's like to have a baby inside your stomach, that you didn't mean to have... it's really a moral issue that the government should stay out of in my opinion.

I also don't like John McCain because I think he's a loose cannon. In the economic crisis rather than proposing positive solutions which Obama was doing he was making negative attack campaigns. Obama made negative attack campaigns too, but, John McCain tried to tie Obama to terrorists. It just isn't right.

That is why I mainly support Barack Obama. As a Democrat in the United States I will be voting for him, and, I don't really care about this Bradley effect.

I appreciate what your saying, I really do..

However, you are completely wrong on several counts.

I like Obama for many of his policies. His policies aren't socialism.

His policy to "OverTax" only a certain percentage of the population, is nothing more than the Redistribution of Wealth. A solid and standard Socialist Practice.

I like Obama's plan for national healthcare and I like his stance on education.

Again, more Socialism

I think that the main fault of the crash of the economy were the fat cat beaurocrats that bought out congress.

On this you are correct. They were all Democrats. Just look at who received the "Kickbacks" from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the top 5 recepients were all Dems and Obama was number 2.

The Republicans tryed desperately to warn everyone of the impending crisis, even went so far as to have hearings on it. They were always defeated by the Democrats.

Overall, I think Obama is more educated than John McCain and he is more knowledgeable on the issues

How is this possible when Obama has never once spoken about issues other than some obscure reference to "Change"

John McCain tried to tie Obama to terrorists.

No need to try; Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers is a documented fact..

Thank you for your comments and above all thank you for listening... At least I know the truth is getting out there...

Sincerely

Homer Fife

He plans to give tax breaks to 95% of the rest of the population. They are giving a break to the rich who owns these companies that have gotten us into this problem, so, I think that it's a good thing really. Nothing wrong with a little bit of socialism. You make it sound like a bad thing.

Again, more Socialism

It's part of the Democratic party platform. That's just one of the issues the Democratic party takes a stance on that tends to lean the way socialists might lean to. It doesn't make them socialists.

On this you are correct. They were all Democrats. Just look at who received the "Kickbacks" from Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, the top 5 recepients were all Dems and Obama was number 2.

And Republicans have a lot of defense contracts too, so, your point is moot.

The Republicans tryed desperately to warn everyone of the impending crisis, even went so far as to have hearings on it. They were always defeated by the Democrats.

This is debatable.

How is this possible when Obama has never once spoken about issues other than some obscure reference to "Change"

Maybe you weren't listening to what he said during the 3 debates when he sounded very passionate about issues that matter to most Americans.

No need to try; Obama's relationship with Bill Ayers is a documented fact..

Your making this more of a problem than it really is. By the time Obama worked iwth Bill Ayers he was over his radical past and Obama was only 6 years old at the time Bill Ayers did his things.

I can see we disagree on a few things... but I'm sure that we can both agree that both political parties are corrupt.

I think we need a Democratic party in office in charge of the Presidency for the next 8 years, and then, I think we need to give 3rd parties a chance.

Not true my friend...

Read his proposal and the tax code.. His proposal will impact almost 80% of all middle class families and wage earners.

Nothing wrong with a little bit of socialism. You make it sound like a bad thing.

It will be the end of the United States

It's part of the Democratic party platform.

It is still Socialism

And Republicans have a lot of defense contracts too, so, your point is moot.

Not so moot when you consider that the Defense Industry, which you concede is run by Reps.. Is perhaps the most stable of all industries at present.. The ones in the tank are the ones that were in oversight by the Dems. Not Moot At All

This is debatable.

Facts are facts and not subject to debate. Several hearings were held by Republicans and the Democrats shouted them all down.

Maybe you weren't listening to what he said during the 3 debates when he sounded very passionate about issues that matter to most Americans.

What issues? What did he say specifically? Nothing

Obama was only 6 years old at the time Bill Ayers did his things.

Obama was more than 6 when he attended the fund raiser in Ayers living room and Ayers, but his own admission, is proud of what he did and only says he did not do enough.

Ayers is still a terrorist and Obama is associated with him. Those are facts my friend.

but I'm sure that we can both agree that both political parties are corrupt.

Absolutely...

The big difference is one is Capitalist Corrupt and the other is a Socialist Party in disguise.. Socialism will destroy this country.

Sincerely

Homer Fife

I'm not sure what your gripe about socialism is. Name-calling will get us nowhere. I see you're a conservative Republican and you feel the same way that us liberals felt about Bush. Relax.
. It won't be the end of the United States. No President will end the US. You have nothing to fear
. You don't need to be so paranoid.

Name Calling??

I sense a little deflection here.. hmmmmmm

Solcialism is a failed concept and a political ideology, nat a "Name Calling Event"

This Country is arguably the most powerful country that has ever existed. Why?

Because of the standards of our Founding Fathers, not Socialism..

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Regardless of all the hooplah and personal horror stories and attitudes to the contrary, the standard of living in the United States is quite simply the highest there is over all.. Our "poor" live at a standard about equal with the rest of the worlds average citizen..

That is because of numerous issues to include our natural resources and location, but most of all our Representative Republic...

Socialism will destroy this nation.

Paranoia can be healthy..

"Dwight D. Eisenhower
When you are in any contest you should work as if there were - to the very last minute - a chance to lose it. "

"Calvin Coolidge
Don't expect to build up the weak by pulling down the strong. "

"Ronald Reagan
Double, no triple, our troubles and we'd still be better off than any other people on earth. It is time that we recognized that ours was, in truth, a noble cause."

"Ronald Reagan
The government's view of the economy could be summed up in a few short phrases: If it moves, tax it. If it keeps moving, regulate it. And if it stops moving, subsidize it."

"We've gone astray from first principles. We've lost sight of the rule that individual freedom and ingenuity are at the very core of everything that we've accomplished. Government's first duty is to protect the people, not run their lives."

Democrats aren't socialists.

We aren't a far left country. That's the point I was trying to make.

As long as you continue to vote Republicans to office you can keep this country from becoming far left and from becoming socialist
.

We need both liberals and conservatives on the economy.

I'll tell you what, I personally think we need a mixture of both reagonomics and socialism.

I don't think that we should use all of socialism's policies, and, I don't think that's what the Democrats intend to do.

I just think you should suspend judgment on Barack Obama and the Democrats. If you fear the Democrats will turn the US into a socialist country then you can vote for Republicans if you feel that will help.

That's the beauty of our country. We can vote for whoever we want to.

Why are you calling Obama a socialist though? John McCain was for the government bailout of the economy.

How come Obama is socialist and John McCain isn't?

Are you using double standards to judge both candidates?

I think both candidate has some socialist policies.

We ever meet, I want to buy you a beer!!!!

As far as Obama being a Socialist goes, I am not basing this on the bail out, but on policies...

Increased Spending
Over-taxation
Socialization of Healthcare
etc...

Just looking at his voting record is all..

I do agree that we need a balance, I just want that balance to be in "MY" direction..

I see what you're saying.

I wish that the government could work without being so fixated on one kind of policy idea or another.

I don't care much for socialist or communist or anarchist or hitler like policies.

I just want a working government.

Is that too much to ask for?

Apparently taking into account the past few years, it is...

Sad really when this country has the same potential it did in the "Roaring" old good times of the 50's and 60's....

"Power corrupts"

and

"Absolute Power, Corrupts Absolutely"

Close as I can come to figuring it out my friend!!!!

How would you like to be interviewed?

Let you talk about the candidates, the election and your thoughts on both!!!!

Yes, that is my point.

Power corrupts politicians.

No politician is immune to this.

I didn't fully understand quite what you meant by this:

I didn't get the last sentence.
