Fox, what time is it in MA? I'm in the same time zone and it's 1:20 PM. Why is the sun so low in this picture?

EDIT: Nevermind, I just realized my mistake. I read too fast and thought this was Cape Cod in MA. Doh! Sorry Fox.

We call it SUN here on Earth: see these examples of CCD Saturation and Blooming (AKA blooding).

Here you can find an article regarding these three images, while here there's an article about CCD Saturation and Blooming.

When I face my phone camera directly into the sun, it creates this exact effect. I'm not sure whether the software craps out and can't deal with it, or it's a protective measure to save the cameras CCD.

In any case, it's completely normal

I think that black spot type of thing has been explained before.

It's a glitch. When a camera is tries to capture an image of a very strong source of light(i.e the sun), the brightest spot ends up being a black spot.

Hope some of the camera pros can explain it better or correct me if I'm mistaken.

You manipulated the date from 2003 to 2008

I don't see anything odd. Just that black spot where the Sun is too bright for the digital camera to pick up.

My mistake then. Didn't knew about the CCD Saturation and Blooming before now. Thanks for clearing it up, internos.
