What McCain needs to do to win Wednesday's Final Debate

I originally posted this in another thread, but I thought it might warrant its own:

John McCain and Barack Obama have their final debate on Wednesday, October 15. Despite the polls, McCain can still win this 2008 election. But, in order to do this:

John McCain needs to:


---Draw attention to what "ACORN" is doing in Ohio and other states to perpetuate voter fraud (Obama's "Community Organizer" experience was with ACORN).

---Bring up Obama's ties to Kenya and the situation there, particularly how the author of "ObamaNation" was recently detained on a trip there for digging into Obama's past.

---Bring up Obama's connections to the Radical Left and radicals such as William Ayers. Cite information from Obama's own book concerning his mentor "Frank", a reference to Frank Marshall Davis--an activist with radical Communist views.

---Bring up recent comments by Louis Farrakhan about Obama being the "Messiah". (In direct contrast to recent Democrats' attacks about Sarah Palin's comments on the Iraq War being a "mission from God".)

---Challenge Obama to give a direct answer rather than "rhetoric" concerning his FAR LEFT past and ideals. Particularly, bring up the fact that Obama was the lone Senator to take the floor to oppose a law that would allow medical aide to be given to babies who survived attempted abortions!

---Directly talk to the American people about how Obama's ideas mirror SOCIALISM.

---And personally, explain to the American people, particularly Conservatives, why he (McCain) voted for this financial bailout when he could have been a true "Maverick" and voted against it, especially in light of all the "pork" that was inserted into it.

---Talk about how the Republicans tried to address the problems with Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac back in 2001 and 2004, only to be silenced by Democrats who played the "race card" in defense of those entities whom they were primarily responsible for creating.

---Bring up the fact that with today's folding economy, Barack's "green plan" has been rendered impotent and too expensive for us taxpayers.

---Bring up the connection that raising taxes on the so called "rich" (who employ us mediocre wage earners) has a tendency to make these so called "rich" companies cut back on costs in order to pass these tax raises onto the consumer. One of these "costs" is paying wages to employees; therefore, the EMPLOYERS cut cost by eliminating EMPLOYEES. Or, they simply "export" their operation. I think a lot of American people do NOT make this connection.

---Directly address Wednesday's debate monitor Bob Schieffer on CBS (and other mainstream media outlets) about their blatant bias in reporting on this election. Palin touched on this near the end of her debate with Biden but John McCain needs to let his temper out "just a little bit" concerning this.

---Look into the camera when Obama compares McCain to George W. Bush (which IS inevitable) and say --calmly but firmly-- "I am NOT George W. Bush."

---Use his personality traits. McCain needs to draw on his known temper and tear Obama to pieces (with FACTS). Obama exhibits a "panic" mode and starts stuttering when his teleprompter malfunctions or when he doesn't have an answer or "comeback". McCain needs to exploit this.

After doing all of the above, he should have this election wrapped up!

He was 'detained' because he intentionally didn't get the work permit he knew he needed to. He wasn't tortured, he was slapped on the wrist for being a bad boy. Let's not dramatize here. And it wasn't because he was finding skeletons. This author was up to no good and the officials caught wind.

That's not equivalent. One is a 'he said she said', and the other is words from Palin herself. Meh, religious people are normally crazy to me so I expected this and as a result I am not dwelling on it myself.

Can you elaborate on this one? I have not heard the whole story myself, and apparently you have.

I am familiar with socialism. I have a few books on it n fact. Trust me my angry friend, our world will still be the same capitalistic commercial engine with the same avenues for exploitation and corruption. Perfect the way it is. The land of milk and honey, heh.

I am quite upset both McCain and Obama voted for it. I would love to hear an explanation from both of them.

Bigger then our military expenses? McCain will keep those on the high. This is a moot point.

Besides it is not just a money issue. We are still experiencing serious ecological issues to mother earth due to climate change. That hasn't changed.

That seems like a legitimate concern to me. Admittedly this is not my area of expertise though.

If he does that then he will lose votes, not win a debate.

Saying the media is biased against McCain is a cop out. The media is biased, biased to both. You turn on fox and the polls are 80% McCain is winning. You turn on MSNBC and it's Obama at 80%. Everybody knows this, which is why most conservatives (including yourself I am sure) watch Fox news. If McCain was winning you wouldn't even bring this up.

Which is fine. His retort will obviously be "but you voted inline with him 90% of the time"

Can McCain dispute that allegation? He has not tried yet. Why?

I wouldn't count on it. Obama is a better public speaker by a long shot.

Wow! Instead of comedy maybe you should consider a career in our military as a General.

For that matter, maybe Obama knows where to find Osama. He should tell George Bush where to find him. Of course, both parties are too politically motivated to actually work "together" effectively. They BOTH put their politics ahead of actually getting things done!

Wow, there were so many things I wanted to talk about, but not being an expert in most of the arguments you put forth (Acorn, Kenya, Ayers, etc.) However, I am an expert on the working of the economy. Unlike McCain ,who, admitted early in his campaign that he "does not know much about the economy," I know a great deal. What you are talking about in the particular statement I quoted is Trickle Down.

Trickle down is the biggest FALLACY in modern economics. You will never hear an economist tout this idea because it simply does not work. You see, everything is economics must adhere its basic tenets, Supply & Demand. If some idea does not hash with these tenets, it does not work, PERIOD.

Trickle Down states that if you give a company, or the rich in general, more money (usually in the form of tax breaks), the company will use this money to create jobs (by expanding its facilities) or pay its existing workers higher wages. This sounds like it makes sense on the surface (which is why it has been sold by demagogues for literally centuries). A demagogue by the way is someone who preaches an idea he knows to be false to people he knows do not understand it. Back to the issue at hand, once you examine the "theory" of Trickle Down in more detail you see that it does not adhere to Supply & Demand.

A company will only, I repeat ONLY, hire more workers if the demand for its products increases. Let me give you an example: Last year company A produced 1000 widgets with a labor force of 100 employees. Next year company A again plans to produce (be demanded by the economy) 1000 widgets. Also forecast for next year, company A expects to get a large tax break from the government. Now, given that its production requirements will not increase, even though its profits, due to the tax break, most assuredly will increase, why would company A increase its labor force from the 100 workers it used last year????? Answer, it would not. This simple example illustrates that just because a company makes more money, it will not increase its labor force unless the demand for its product also increases.

Trickle Down's second proposed benefit is that it will allow a company to pay its workers more money in the form of wages. Again, this is a FALLACY. The price of labor (wages), like any commodity, is subject to the forces of Supply & Demand. A company will only increase the wages it pays its labor force if the supply of labor in its market, or the demand for labor in its market, changes. Let me again give you a simple example: Company B requires 100 college graduates to produce its product. Next year the number of college graduates, in company B's labor market, is expected to dramatically decrease. Just like when the supply of oil drops, its price increases, so too would the price (wages) company B will be willing to pay for its college graduates. The same hold true when you look at the demand for labor. If company C requires 100 auto workers to produce its product and all of a sudden ten auto companies move into its labor market, thus increasing the demand for auto workers, company C will be inclined to pay its auto workers more for their labor. Again, a company will only pay its workers higher wages if the demand for, or supply of, its desired laborers changes.

These simple Supply & Demand examples clearly (at least I hope) illustrate the FALLACY of Trickle Down.

My rather lengthy explanation aside, I will give you that a company may be induced to move its operation abroad if the increase in taxes it will face is astronomical. Companies really only "export" their workers because of differences in the price for labor. Hence all the jobs leaving America to go to low cost labor markets (China, Mexico, Taiwan, etc.) A tax increase like Obama's would not, alone, give a company enough incentive to up and leave America.

My last two cents, I promise. If you would like to lay the blame of our current financial crisis at the feet of any one politician, you should look no further than former President Reagan. Reagan's policies of deregulation are by far and above the primary reason that we find our financial system in its current state of chaos. If you have any doubt about this, try typing "Failure of Reaganomics" into google and read one of the hundreds of current articles written about this subject.

The surest way to defeat Obama once and for all is to repeat what Obama told a plumber when asked about taxes. Obama said, "I want to take the wealth and..spread it around.." Case closed. This is socialism at best and communisim at worst. Couple this with what Biden told a reporter in an interview, "We want to.. take money.."

McCain and his staff has been doing 10 of the things you stated and they STILL tanking!

At this point McCain needs to go to the basics, talk economy, differentiate himself for Bush once and for all, even if he has to denounce Bush pr call him out like Obama does.

McCain is running much against Bush policies and Bush himself than against Obama, thats all he has left IMO, he needs to stop the attacks and refocus AGAIN the mesage of his campaign and STICK to it.

The main reason why Obama is pulling away in this race is because he has succesfully linked McCain to Bush and you can say....that's a lie? But the people is buying it. If McCain takes that tool away from Obama by repudiating the Bush Administration then he is leveling the playing field specially on economic issues that are definately what is going to decide this election.

Oh I hope he does everything you mentioned! I hope he practically ignores the economy in favor of attacking Obama's personal associations of 20 or 30 years ago! I hope he talks about Reverend Wright, William Ayers, Tony Rezko and the race card!

I think he should stay away from most of that stuff...it's not going to help him. Connecting with the American people will help him... Showing Obama's flaws in his policies will help him.

He needs to show me that he's going to REALLY go after corruption in our government. People are angry about the economy...and Obama's policies aren't going to strengthen it...it will only make it worse. It sounds great in speeches though, i only hope that people aren't voting on him because he's a great speaker...which i think he is. I hope they aren't doing it because it's the popular thing to do...Damn the Republicans!!!!! Time for Democrats to rule!!! Being a Democrat or a Republican does NOT mean you will be a good leader...it's all about that person's will to do good...and love for their country and the people within it.

He needs to leave the Ayers stuff alone. It's turned into a racial issue and the country doesn't need this...

Obama's policies are mostly weak since we are in a recession. If we had a budget surplus his ideas would sound better to me...but we don't. The country is broke. His tax plan just won't work.

People need to realize this and McCain has to really drive this home.

Oh wait, McCaine cannot afford to highlight the fact that he's a maverick in the name only. This is already a tired word in this campaign, just like the "prisoner" stuff and the rest of us "fellow prisoners".

Maverick he is not. Running a campaign with ultra-class lobbyists he is.
