Radio search for ET draws a blank

Topic started on 25-3-2004 @ 07:00 PM by SE7EN

I came across this on the bbc this is the same radio station used in the "x -files" for an episode anyway their most sensitive search yet for radio signals from intelligent life in space. has came up a blank shame to say.
ET radio

They believe the best way to find ET is to look for a radio signal. Such signals can travel vast distances.
The Arecibo radio telescope in Puerto Rico, supported by Jodrell Bank, searched over a period of 10 years.

hope its a good read for you seti fans out there

Hi Se7en!!!

Very many thanx for the links and story!!

Yes, it is disappointing news - but not unexpected really. The study refered to lasted 10 years - imagine if a civilisation had "scanned" our solar system in - say - 1850 - how much "radio noise" would they have found here? Very little I guess. Try again in 1900 and they would find *some* - again in 2000 and the sky would be "radio bright"...

Unfortunately, SETI@home will need tens of years to "discover" ET I suspect - though a "chance" discovery is always a possibility perhaps.

And, if you don't look - you're certaily going to miss it!!

Cheers Se7en - thanx again!!
