Why the obsession with one line posts?

Some of the most famous quotes in history occupy just one line, some of the best responses I have seen are just one line.

So can we apply some kind of common sense here, and start assessing the actual quality of the response, instead of its length?

Don't care. You've only got to get past a computative thing so you pad out a sentence. I've only been done for it once. It's barely an issue. Must say, to pad this out a bit, that when I was done for a one liner, I noticed that the previous line had been shorter. It's one of those where horror * succintness = moderators alerted.

An old english teacher of mine remarked on a rather longwinded essay of a classmate of mine, saying that a good telegraph was infinitely better than a bad letter. Brevity is at the heart of clarity, otherwise one is just indulging in intellectual flatulence.

Personally, i am far more interested in the point i make, than the points i get for making it.

Yeah, but the points you get define the effectiveness of your argument. It is great being truthful to the blind. Let them see your brilliant argument. You could of course disuss it with Socialists at discourse and not allow the people understanding for recourse, but that of course is your choice.

I am not so much caught up with the one line posts as I am the idea of people with greater intelligence taking the oppotunity to belittle someone elses comments without informing them of the right information. As for the one line post topic if you want relevant a relevant veiw just check out the first posts on this thread

There are some pretty useless comments in here about nothing and it really highlights why this action was taken

I agree, it's anal.

I think there is value in being concise.

We have enough windbags in real life and if it only takes one line to say something that should be enough.

I find some of the long posts more disruptive and don't end up reading the whole thing. They can get redundant and a bit boring.

I do agree however that posts of just smilies is very annoying.

Yea I have a problem getting through the long post, even in real life I don't have a lot to say.

Short and Sweet and to the point,

You have to get some hit with reality. The thread you 'mention' is so poor that the first three replies were completely derisory. I didn't reach much further, your point was made. You have to realise that complete shiite is neither respected as biblical nor rational.

I just wanted to throw in - I am guilty not only of that but essentially one line/link threads - because of certain vigilant and helpful people here on ATS, I am being weened and I realize it's not quantity - but quality - I am not a poster on any other board and it was new for me so a slap here and there never hurts.
