According to early indicator GE will report earnings as expected today and it will not be as severe as people had anticipated.

Hopefully that will bring some calm to the storm, but not much Im afraid.

And I agree, we can all be respectful to one another.

We can at least enjoy the end of the world in a calm and peaceful manner

DOW futures somewhere in the 420 neg. range!!!!

OK.

I hope everybody has stocked up on food and water.

If the shtf and the credit markets go completely hard (forzen) then we may be a few weeks with no food on the shelves.

I am pinned to CNBC now....waiting for the bell.

OIL AT $76.20 future ?!?!? BAD news for me.

I'm in the same boat, I had no idea what was what until, well, it started disintegrating.

This is the Dow over the past 12 months...

I wonder who's the ceremonial bell ringer this morning . . . he/she/it will definitely be a trival pursuit question in the next edition of that game!!!

Be fitting if GWB went down there and flicked the switch, now wouldn't it!

I'm trying to decide if I should run and get some money out of the bank before our "President" makes his address...

not that i'm worried about a bank freeze, but dubya seems to be pretty good at making people panic.

you can take what he says, and assume he's covering up 90% of it...

sigh...

-418 now...

Unless Bush gets on TV at 10:45 this morning and starts farting rainbows and unicorns - literal rainbows and unicorns, not hypothetical ones - and unless the Lehman CDS auction at 10 gets sucked into a black hole....it's about to be worse.

Yeah I already did this this morning. When I heard he was talking last night I planned to take out a couple hundred this morning just in case they froze the banks for next week. Call me paranoid.

Anachryon, I'm so out of the loop when it comes to stocks that I'm not even sure what to ask....I guess what I'm looking for is when should I start to worry. I found a graph that showed that right now the Dow is at approx where it was about 10 years ago. Is that good/bad/not worrisome yet? And besides the Dow, what other major stocks should I be looking at? I was trying to read through wiki what exactly the Dow is, but what I didn't understand is, basically WHAT it is and how it affects us as individuals...does that make sense?

I really wish I knew more about this
I feel really dumb about now

You should be worried now.

Simple enough question. You should indeed be worried now.

-240 and falling fast. Volume is extremely high and numbers are delayed a bit. Give it about 5-10 min and we'll see where things go.

Whoops, -340 now.

Lads all the finance info sources are glitching due to bandwidth issues.

Some sources showing dow at 8200 level, some lower.
