Just read on teletext that RAF Machrihanish near Cambeltown is to be disposed of as it is surplus to requirements, what a shame, I was looking forward to seeing some new US black project pictures, where will they now run there planes for long range tests? Boscombe Down?

A USAF MC130H Combat Talon, callsign Talon71 was performing High Level para drops over Machrihanish this afternoon before eventually landing for a few hours.

Early evening it then departed back to RAF Fairford where it is currently deployed as part of an exercise involving Talons and Shadows.

Nice to see there's still a little bit of military life left in the airfield, and quite suprising too, considering it's been months since the MOD publicly announced the base has been closed for good.
