The financial crisis is likely to diminish the status of the United States as the world's only superpower. On the practical level, the US is already stretched militarily, in Afghanistan and Iraq, and is now stretched financially. On the philosophical level, it will be harder for it to argue in favour of its free market ideas, if its own markets have collapsed. ....

'The US is seen as declining relatively and there has been an enormous acceleration in this perfect storm of perception in the waning days of the Bush administration.'

I personally think that the U.S. will most likely lose superpower status at least for the time being, until the whole economy is back to 'normal'... i'm just wondering who's going to replace the U.S. ... china?

China? Goodness I hope not simply because of the way their government is: Cheating, human rights violations, mass/forced euthanasia, etc.
Personally I hope for there to be some sort of quiet time for the world stage and avoid having to deal with some kind of superpower.
Of course that's just wishful thinking on on mine and everyone's part unfortunately. But at the same time as an American I also more immediately wish to keep the current status of my country.

yes i completely agree with you i want the us to be a keep it's super power status but i really think that it's going to lose a lot of i guess 'points' or whatever and not have as much legitimacy in the world because of how the economy is right now ... and the reason why i have china is because they seem to have little bits and pieces invested in a lot of countries they have at least around 2 trillion dollars invested in the us alone

I think you could easily put America in place of China and the sentence would still be true..
Cheating(Enron) Human Rights Violations (Guantanamo Bay, Patriots act), Infanticide( Abortion on demand).

For years when I listened to people always bashing America I tried to get them to understand that one day America will not be the super power and China or some other country will be and they will wish for the good ol days.

I just feel so sad for our founding fathers and I feel ashamed that we have allowed our country to fall. Greed, corruption, socialist insiders, etc.

If you throw a frog into a pot of boiling water, he’ll jump out. But if you place a frog into a pot of lukewarm water and slowly turn up the heat, it will boil to death.

We slowly allowed our freedoms and liberties to be taken away from us while we got fatter, and felt safer, and got more comfortable and dumbed down.

I think the majority of the American people have said no to this bailout, but it looks like a government by the government for the government.

I am rambling. I guess there is still hope to save America, but it is going to take something drastic.
