Mayor Michael Bloomberg has decided to try to reverse the term-limits law he had long supported so he can seek a third term next year and help the city emerge from financial turmoil...

The billionaire former CEO will cite the nation's precarious economic situation as the reason that New York needs a tested financial manager to stay and guide the city, the person said.

Could this be setting a bad precedent for a bad president to try for a 3rd term amid an "economic crisis"?

I'm a new Yorker and I like Bloomberg, but not sure I like this idea for the sole reason that I don't want Bush to get any funny ideas... although it may be too late for that.

I did a search for this thread only to find it posted and then, at last, only the OP. No replies. I'm amazed. This is a HUGE story. It's the way that the certain few in government want to run the show. By eliminating term limits. It's crazy that this hasn't gotten more attention. I keep seeing it in news blips and yet it is always presented in a good light. Because of the 'current financial crisis'. Yeah right. What a joke!

There is no excuse to change the term limits. For any reason. Even martial law. Martial law is a nicer term for 'dictatorship'. I believe this may be a litmus test for the current administration. They want to see if it would work.

Or maybe for a future administration. Regardless, it's the ones with the money and put these 'presidents' in place. That is becoming more and more obvious as these dark days move on.

Why be outraged by this? There are no term limits in Congress and that's where the real power in this country rests. If you want to do something about it, fight Bloomberg on this by voting no to his measure to abolish term limits and then push your representatives to introduce legislation that imposes term limits on Congressional seats.

If re-elected, Mr. Bloomberg, a billionaire and a longtime Democrat who became a Republican to run for mayor in 2001 but declared himself an independent last year, would be only the fourth mayor in the city’s modern history to serve a third term.

Now it makes sense why nobody is complaining about this.

#2: Billionaire = Buy system to continue regime, aka Putin.
