In the midst of a spiraling financial situation, two core measures of public opinion toward President Bush have dipped to all-time lows in Washington Post-ABC News polling.

Just 26 percent now approve of the president's overall job performance; 22 percent, another record low, give him positive marks on handling the nation's economy.

There are also signs of growing dissatisfaction among the president's base: 39 percent of Republicans and 49 percent of conservatives now disapprove of how he is handling his job. Both are new highs. And for the first time, a majority of white evangelical Protestants, 52 percent, rate the president's performance negatively. In each of these groups, even higher numbers disapprove of how Bush is handling the economy.

Frankly I'm surprised his numbers remain this high. Add financial meltdown to his resume.

No kidding.. I don't know ANYONE around here who approve of Bush at this point. Not even my parents, who are die hard Republicans approve of this clown anymore. 26% is very high.. I wouldn't be able to find 26 out of 100 people around here that like Bush..

Has the Pelosi led Congress approval ratings topped 10% yet?

You can say Bush's approval ratings are low, but low compared to what or whom. Certainly not low if you compare it to Congress.

I cant believe 1 in 5 people believe he is doing a good job. Are these ratings rigged? I would expect the number to be 1 in 50 people if they were accurate.

Low compared to his approval ratings after 9/11... that's what you can compare them to.

If this were a parliamentary system, he would have been out on his bum with a no-confidence vote years ago. Lucky George, even in the midst of unparalleled failure.

Since it happened under his watch, he has to take the heat, even though it's not all entirely his fault.
It comes with the territory.
Bush actually saw this coming but I still fault him because he should have been tougher on Dodd, Frank and even Obama, all who believed no reform was necessary.

He will be out of office shortly, I just wish others would follow. If the President can only serve a maximum of eight years then so should Senators, Congressman etc... I would keep these politicians honest and not so corrupt. Bush is not the only one who should take a beating from this. There's plenty of other people to blame and they all should be accounted for and held responsible for their actions. I don't want a socialist market where government is in control of it and private investors profit and keep their money, but if they fail then us tax payers pick up the tab. NO! NO! The market has to stay free. Like I said " Bush will be out", so be careful who we put in there.

Pelosi's Congress is the lowest rated in all of history. Bush is two and a half times more popular and he can barely muster 25%.
