Well not strictly true, gold leaf is used to decorate things like cakes, and there are a couple of drinks (alocholic) that have flakes of gold leaf in them - gold is a harmless stable metal that will just pass through the body... Although it has been said that if they start using it on a nanoscopic scale it might have different properties.

In fact in Japans sewers they are actually pulling more gold out of the ash from the incentrators per ton then they are getting per ton of ore in the top gold mines! -- that is because of the trend of decorating food with gold and the industries using gold in the manafacture of electronics. thats real pay dirt
