They're blinding them with science.

U.S. Marines fighting in Iraq have been issued low-power laser weapons designed to temporarily blind enemy forces, the Washington Post reported Monday.

"Dazzlers," as they're called, shoot green beams designed to "warn or temporarily incapacitate individuals," according to a Defense Science Board report extensively quoted in the Post's story.

I recall witnessing this very same "weapon" on the Discovery Channel Program: "Future Weapons", a year or two ago. It truly works, and it disables the subject without causing retinal damage. It achieves this through a certain amount of diffusion, in that the laser covers an area about the size of a face (much like a flash-light beam, but only much more intense). Hey, if it saves lives then I am all for it.
