I found this in the Toronto sun newspaper in a corner under the sun flash.

PARTICLE COLLIDER SMASHED SHORTLY AFTER LAUNCH

GENEVA -- The world's largest particle collider malfunctioned within hours of its launch, but its operator didn't report the problem for a week.

Yesterday, the European Organization for Nuclear Research reported that a 30-ton transformer that cools part of the collider broke, forcing physicists to stop using the atom smasher just a day after starting it up Sept. 10.

Repairs have been made and scientists expect to prepare experiments in coming weeks .

Bad karma. Can't even get things to run .
You can find this information here www.torontosun.com...

Why do you bother to post such nonsense? What does karma have to do with operating a UNIQUE and incredibly complex piece of machinery? You should try that some day, before you assume such condecending tone. See how far your karma gets you.

There are a few threads already on this but yeah so far we have bad engineering, faulty components, oversights, skipping tests and to top it off they name it after a Sci-fi weapon designed to destroy all life (HALO).

And we are meant to trust these peoples speculations.

No thanks

This machine is a huge achievement for mankind. It is extremely complex with thousands of parts, each one can go wrong and many of them will.

Show me any large scale project which has been implemented and ran to conclusion without any glitches? The only problem with the LHC is that it is in the main stream media at the minute so all failures all highlighted, but to take satisfaction or enjoyment from these glitches seems mightily immature.

Why do you want it to fail, these scientists dedicate years of their lives to building the LHC in an attempt to further mankinds knowledge and our understanding of the universe and you want to criticise that. Why ?

It's a couple of hoses and some magnets granted they are long hoses but if smashing things together is a huge achievement for mankind then I guess we have not come very far.

It's a shame this money could have been spent on something useful instead of just throwing it away on mad scientists.
