When I get to uni, I'm going to study linguistics, anthropology and maybe even cosmology later on.

I seek to understand and build knowledge (I read New Scientist mag a lot), but I'm not a scientist for two reasons.

1st. I don't have any degrees or anything.
2nd. I haven't contributed anything to science. That is unless you consider explaining and dispelling myths about evolution to creationists - that I can do without any qualifications.

But anyway, I wanna get a take on the member pool of the wunderbar ATS boards.

So are there any scientists out there?

Webster: "Scientist".....a person learned in science and especially natural science.

"science"......1: the state of knowing : knowledge as distinguished from ignorance or misunderstanding

I am a scientist. (my degree is in soil science/agronomy and horticulture). I don't perform labratory experiments, however I base my livelyhood on observation of the physical world. I seek to deny ignorance and reduce misunderstanding. It's a science. (and an art)

The scientific method is valid. The scientific method denies ignorance and reduces misunderstanding. It all starts with observation thoough.

yes, I am a scientist. The scientist to be exact.

Ignore the fact you don't have a degree. To be a scientist, you only need a set of mental tools for critical thinking, and an open mind that is not stifled by fear or superstition.

If you look here you will see the Demographics link:

ATS Demographics

If you look at this Graph you will see the breakdown:

Current level of education

According to the last survey, which was last year:

32% Some College
17% 4-Year College Degree
16% Not Graduated from H.S.
13% High School Grad
07% Masters Degree
06% Graduate Student
03% Multiple Degrees
03% Trade School Grad
02% Doctorate Degree
(Results are percentage of total responses)

Hope this helps

I am. I would consider my work more veterinarian now. But I still go in the lab each day and over see the experiments.

As a kid I never wanted to wear a suit and tie to work. Jeans and a lab coat are much more my style.
