A 6.9 magnitude earthquake shook HOKKAIDO, JAPAN according to the USGS. On MSNBC they say the earthquake was 7.2.

This is from CNN:

A magnitude 6.9 earthquake rattled Japan on Thursday, within minutes of a magnitude 6.6 earthquake in Indonesia, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries from either quake, but both prompted tsunami warnings, although Japan's Meteorological Agency predicted it would be small, about 50 centimeter (20 inches).

The Japanese quake occurred at 9:21 a.m. (0021 GMT). The USGS initially classified its magnitude as a 7.2, but later reduced it.

The quake's epicenter was offshore, about 80 miles (125 km) south-southwest of Kushiro on the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, and about 21.7 miles (35 km) below the Earth's surface.

What the deuce? Another one? I suppose the earth can sense the danger it's in. It's been a crappy few months as far as natural disasters go.

6.9 vs 7.2?

Hmm....

At least Japan is the leader in earthquake technology.

They are incredibly efficient when it comes to aid and rescue. Im sure there were very few casualties....

Thanks for the information!

MSNBC seems to be the only one right now that is reporting on the quakes that hit Asia. That's weird by now i would think the mainstream media would be reporting this.

Hhmmm, Gorjira perhaps??? His mission is to protect the Earth. I've been waiting for him to act. I shudder to think about the potential consequences.

Maybe Mothra will help, I don't know.

While I was researching the Kola Superdeep Borehole Project I learned that the crust of the earth is thought to be around 22 miles (35 Kilometers) thick. The depth of this earthquake was 21.7 miles deep.

I wonder if this disturbance came from the Mantle?
