Could the Kremlin censor an entertainment programme on live TV? According to Russian bloggers, that's exactly what happened on one of the country's national television channels. Indeed, the video of the programme is beyond belief.
The programme is a spooky phenomenon show with an audience. The presenter, with special powers, asks audiences members to channel his energy in order to find the weapon, place, and assassin of a murder. It's a bit like a bigger version of the children's game, Cluedo...
The first guinea pig in the audience chooses a knife, the second, Munich, and third, after much hesitation... Putin.... Putin, in Munich, with the knife?! A scenario that doesn't much please the man in a suit who bowls onto the stage - on live TV - to order that Putin is removed from the list. But it can't be done, splutters the presenter - there's nothing to rub it out with. What follows is an extraordinary scene, with the man in the suit barking orders from offstage while the presenters try to explain themselves, until the name Putin is removed by a nervous looking assistant and replaced with simply "Vladimir".
According to our Russian Observers, despite the show seeming ridiculous to the point of incredulity, it was actually rolled out on national television. What an unusual reminder of the Kremlin's tight controls over Russian television.
