www.presstv.ir
Sixteen US troops from the 57th Unit of the Airborne Division have committed suicide inside a military base in Iraq, security sources say.
Iraqi security sources have revealed that 21 US troops had committed suicide inside a former Iraqi air force base 27 days ago, Fars News Agency
reported on Monday. (visit the link for the full news article)

Im not sure why i haven't heard this story on any of the mainstream news channels, it seems pretty important to me. Suicide seems unlikely doesn't it?
And just after dinner! Very strange i think, wouldn't it make more sense that they were poisoned at dinner time but the Government doesn't want people
to know that its that easy for Iraqi insurgents to infiltrate American military bases to poison troops. Or maybe it was the Government themselves
trying to silence troops as to not talk about the orders they received prior to them massacring innocent women and children.

16...
Does that even happen? One or two maybe...
But then even those one or two would be leaving loved ones behind, imagine how many girlfriends, fiance's, lovers and wives they left behind...
Children waiting at home...
16 soldiers do not commit suicide, unless.... something happened.
New drugs being tested? Regret at some extremely serious war crime? A new weapons test being used on them? Assassination? A tragic accident?
This is outlandish... starred and flagged. Hope we get to the bottom of this.

You haven't heard any of this on mainstream news channels because its blatant anti-American propaganda coming out of an Iranian government run news
agency. This is about as legitimate of a news source as that Weekly World News magazine with batboy. Don't post enemy propaganda here, you'll make a
lot of enemies here quickly that way.

The following is my opinion as a member participating in this discussion.
Googling for US troop suicide numbers found this Telegraph article;
By the end of last month, as many as 93 active duty soldiers had killed themselves so far this year, although 31 of those deaths remained under
investigation.
If the total is confirmed and the trend continues, the suicide rate among soldiers would exceed that of the general US population for the first time
since the Vietnam War, officials said, and top last year's figure of 115, the highest annual toll on record.
"With four months left, we're probably going to surpass 115," Colonel Eddie Stephens, the army's deputy director of human resources policy, told a
Pentagon news conference.
www.telegraph.co.uk...
I have no idea how reliable the Telegraph nor the statistics are, but it IS worrying regarding the brutality of the conflict in Iraq and its effect on
the servicemen and women.

The Major is curious as to why you are "not sure" about this article? Is it because many more than 16 must have committed suicide? Surely it
couldn't be the source. The Major is certain that no ATS member would allow themselves to be duped into spreading Iranian propaganda. With that
confidence the Major is willing to explore other avenues. The Major believes that there is a chance that these unfortunate souls were forced to
sacrifice their lives to offer life sustaining blood to Dick Cheney, while their organs were roasted and served at the White House. Oh, and it was all
a Zionist plot bent on furthering the Jewish pornography industry. yes, the Major sees this all quite clearly.
Dismissed.

I did a few searches and the only source that came up was the Iranian source. If this was true I wouldn't expect American media to give it
attention, but surely some Russian or Chinese or even European media would be reporting on it.

Soldiers in a war zone tend not to kill themselves If they have a death wish have the ability to do things to make that happen. Most of military
suicides are state side seen 2 myself while stationed with the 101st. And ill even go one better its usually over some girl wife cheating girlfriend
cheating etc. Its hard for people in the military to maintain relationships. It Goes back to what were we told in basic, If the army wanted you to
have a girlfriend we would have issued you one.

Hey mabus,
I am indeed glad the source is a government news source for Iran. Because, if we have to ever go in hot there, they are so retarded not to even know
the force structure of the U.S. Airborne Div. We only have one and there is no "57th Unit of the Airborne Division" even in a support role.
Suicide is always a problem in any group of folks, military or not. One thing though, is the suicide rate was higher in peace time then at times of
war.
Vance
PS,
No, I won't go into the Force Structure of the "Airborne Division". If the Iranians are that pleasantly ignorant, than they should stay that way.

Im not an American so this isn't propaganda to me, nor are Iraqi people my enemy, they haven't attacked my country nor have they attacked yours so
why are they your enemy? They didn't have the WMD's that they were said to have nor did their Government harbor terrorist's. So what would you do
in their situation? Would you sit back and let a foreign power take control of your country for no other reason then to control your oil, no i don't
think so somehow. Far be it for me to say but at this moment in time American's are seen as the enemy in most parts of the world. I know its not the
peoples fault that their Government is corrupt and has no regard for international law or their own Constitution which by the way dissolves a little
bit everyday. So think about who the enemy really is, a country thousands of miles away that could never threaten America or the Government that eats
away your civil liberties piece by piece everyday.

IMHO. There is absolutely NOTHING that should lead anyone to believe this is remotely true.
Before people start "OMG!!!", please do some more research
The only 57th I could find within seconds, was from WW2. Maybe if I spend some more time, then I can find some facts to back up an IRANIAN source of
some 57th unit.
But Im calling this entire story BS.
And with that many alledged suicides at once. Families here in the states would be SCREAMING out and it would be known within the military family
FAST. This kind of stuff spreads like wildfire in the military community.

...and your true colors come out. You blatantly anti-American,left wing extremists all come across the same. You my friend should do a bit of research
before you attempt to lecture somebody you don't know. Anyways, you need to check out your sources before you post because this entire article was
propaganda, and this thread absolutely shredded the info you provided. Here's a hint, Iranian state run media is generally a little bit skewed. I
don't care what you have to say about our media being skewed, but this kind of story is meant to damage the image of the US, and it looks like you
and the Iranians have a common goal in spreading this utter nonsense.

You are really going to believe an English language Iranian News agency? The only thing that smells rotten here is the source. The story is blatant
propaganda, and if you're going to buy that I'm willing to bet you're one of these types that talks about "chem trails". Can I shovel some more
bull# onto your plate, you seem to be finished digesting all the BS the OP has provided. You probably buy into the 9/11 conspiracy stuff too, don't
you? Blatant anti-Americanism. PLEASE TAKE THE GOVERNMENTAL WOOL FROM OVER YOUR EYES FOR YOU CANNOT SEE WHAT IS REALLY HAPPENING AND THE
SHI* THEY FEED YOU IS ALL LIES!

So you hate the US good for you! I say let the whole thing fall to the ground! Why not? Well because I am an American and I love my country and its
people not the government so much but they pay my bills. Propaganda is not welcome here check your sources and your attitude at the door when posting
because. Much like Santa we know when you’re sleeping, we know when your awake, we know when you’ve been bad or good so please be good for
goodness sake. You better not pout you better not cry im telling you why America is in your town we are in the air you breathe we are in every sip of
coke and every mc nugget you eat. And when we go we are taking it all with us. So go on and hate if you want but please don’t post fake news
stories. Oh and as for Iraq f them I don't care why we are there but we are and now it is a person like me who has to deal with it so STFU until you
have to go somewhere and do crap you are not wanting to do for a reason you know is fake. But that is just my opinion and I could be a douche who
knows. They are the enemy because I am told they are I do not need another reason other than that. and I think for my self just so you know that is
why im only a SPC and not a SSG by now I have been known to say f off at things I think is bunk so go on accuse me of being a government pawn. or a
diss info agent, ohh I wish that was an MOS that would be cool I get to be on ATS all day spreading lies like 16 US TROOPS KILL them self’s. Oh wait
you already did way to go.
